Pretty obvious he wants to play at a program that is in a position to have to play a RSFr as their starting QB

Disagreed. Think the Howards just want guaranteed reps with the 2 (vs scout team), giving WH the opportunity to continue to develop and a chance to compete for a starting role by 2024.

The extra covid year has created a backlog for QBs across the country and we're seeing this manifest here. Its a numbers crunch and i dont see how anyone can blame WH for his decision.. just hope he stays out of the SEC.

The portal is not negotiating your way back to the school your leaving to be elevated above your competition...You decided to leave, move on and find a team that will provide you some sort of result your looking for...Bottom line it's about competing and showing why you are better than the competition...at LSU people he is #3...He is not better than Jayden or Nuss...end of story move on...

Probably not but he may not find a much better situation.

He’s not going to get many reps as the second guy. Reps are too valuable to take away from the starter, particularly in season. Very good chance he regrets leaving if he is the back up somewhere next season. As for him coming back, that would be a terrible look for everyone involved. He made his decision, now he has to live with it. He’ll wish like hell he would have stayed when we’re winning the next few years.

He'll get second-team reps. At LSU he was getting scout team reps, meaning few scholarship players at best.

I hate that he's leaving and don't like it but I guess I can understand why if he thinks he can do better elsewhere.

I’m not going to knock on a kid for leaving even though I think he should have stayed at least one more year.
It was obvious from his limited play he wasn’t ready to start at QB for an SEC team.
If Howard goes to another team and starts then that team will be in trouble this year. He might turn out to be great but I highly doubt that will be this year.

While he was spoken of as the second coming, what little playing time he had here was unimpressive.

There is too much QB talent at LSU, something I never thought I would say but there it is.

I would not be surprised to see him catch on with another SEC team, several are interested.

Good luck young man.

You have a low football IQ if that is how you view Howard.

Why? He wouldn’t have seen the field at LSU for likely 3+ year. Who cares.

But should he have? He was I would imagine expecting to be the back up this coming year. So he wouldn't have played much but would have gotten 2nd team reps. this allows him to further improve. Now with Nuss coming back he will be the clear number 2. This will delay Howard's chances to get quality reps. I wish he was staying at LSU also, but I do understand why he is moving on. I think both LSU and Howard will be fine.

I think in his position as a highly rated qb you probably have already had a few inquiries and have an idea how it will play out before you enter the portal.

Last thing you want to do in that position is enter and stay.

Unless that was your intention the whole time and you used the portal to force a better NIL deal from boosters on the team you are on.

he could be 2nd in 24 and start in 25 - 1 good year then to NFL while making NIL bank at LSU.

May be able to start in 24 at OM or TCU.

So you don't think Collins, or some walk-on, wouldn't run the scout team next year?

If the same 3 QB's are here this year as last, and the same limit on practice time exists, then WH sees the same practice rep's as last year. If he's on the scout team now, how would that change with the same 3 QB's on the roster?

They weren't looking at QBs before, and now you can't get another guy in for spring practice.

so which is it? they need to rush to replace WH now? Or, collins/walk-on can run the scout team?

quote:

he's not committed to the team

Team? what's this shite? this is a career now. kid needs to develop to get to the next level. Maybe he decided the team wasn't committed to him?

Like everything else in life, it's a 2 way street. You want commitment, you have to give commitment. That means "the team" has to commit to the player, too. Right?

He was with the scout team last year because he was a redshirt and the only other scholarship QB. That role likely would have gone to Collins this year anyway, so he probably would have been practicing in some role with the team this season.

Yes, a 3rd QB isn’t getting many reps, but the “scout team” bullshite is just an excuse. They evidently don’t like that Howard wasn’t handed the #2 job or that Nuss didn’t transfer like they may have expected. But if Howard can’t beat him out, that’s his problem, not ours.

The TEAM has to do what’s best for the TEAM to win football games. Period. If Howard couldn’t beat Nuss out on his own steam, then the only thing the team owes him is his continued scholarship and the opportunity to continue to develop and compete. He sure as hell wasn’t owed a free pass to a better position over a guy who is objectively more ready to play when needed.

I call BS on this one. Rickie Collins will be redshirting and likely be running the scout team. Walker would have been competing with Nuss for 2nd team reps. Can we all just admit Walker wants an easier path to the field? That's all this is about. The schools being mentioned will allow him to get on the field as early as 2024 which was likely not the case at LSU. He didn't want to compete here, period. It's very likely someone ahead of him would have transferred after spring ball anyway.

Walker is a long way from being ready to play or even the number 2 QB. Didn't any of you watch him his poor play against Purdue?

fans need to stop being selfish and want what's best for Howard. What's best for Howard is to find a college where he can throw the ball a lot for 3 or 4 years. OSU wasn't the best place for Burrow. LSU right now isn't the best option for Howard.

Alignment would need to be re-established. The Howard Bus is off the tracks.
