Another crappy Moonshot54 thread. No one should take you seriously if you can't even spell a guy's name right. Maybe we should start calling you Moonshit54 in honor of your spelling deficiencies.

Whats wrong with his mechanics?

It’s what we say when a pitcher is not succeeding. For a hitter we talk about his “approach”.

He will be fine. He is learning how to pitch. In high school, he could get away with missing spots and relying on velocity. At this level, he has to hit spots or the outcome isn't very good.

He's obviously struggling but I think Jay is putting him out there and showing he believes in him and to get him battle tested. I actually think it may be nerves more than mechanics. The guy has some really good stuff, he just needs the experience and Jay is giving it to him. It will benefit the team in the long run.

Ha WTF do you know about mechanics? Are you a pitching coach or just think you know? Save him? The kid is fine just struggling to get ahead but can be said for most college pitchers. He needs reps. Coming from the pen against college/SEC hitters isn’t easy.

His fastball is flat and he is throwing it over the middle of the plate. He is not hitting his spots with his breaking pitches, but they are NASTY when they do. He will gain command of these pitches. Once he has full control of the slider, it will be a go to swing and miss. When he throws that true old school curve ball for strikes, it literally won't be fair. If he can add a little life on that fastball, the sky is the limit for him. I believe this kid will be one of the greats before he is done here.

I also believe it is a little tougher for the guys that grow up here in Baton Rouge going to all the games dreaming of playing at LSU. Once it becomes reality, the moment seems too big for them at first. I believe once he mentally accepts that he's just playing ball, and gets over "omg, I'm at LSU" this dude is going to be special.

I think it's very possible within the next 4-5 weeks, that switch is going to flip and he will have a few big relief outings for us. Next year, after a full year in the lab, I see him making that same leap Anderson made and be a top end rotation guy.

Schmidt is still learning how to pitch at this level. He has run into a tough point in his development. You can tell he’s not comfortable out there right now. We are talking about a kid that’s probably never struggled on the mound like this before.

Keep running him out there mid week and in weekend games in low pressure until he finds himself.

Maybe let Noot get some weekend innings out the Pen and make Schmidt a mid week starter. Sometime guys are just better starting a game than coming in out the Pen.

He will be contributing in a major way sooner rather than later at LSU.

Tell him to go back to how he pitched in HS when he was successful enough to get a schollie to the top college baseball program in America.
I am afraid we get these kids thinking to much about mechanics and can't throw a strike.
Kind of like golf when a player thinks about golf swing mechanics during the swing and loses whatever they had from just naturally playing golf.
doesn't work

And have to use every waking moment of their life to show this. I heard one guy in the stands last night screaming a snarky “calic high” every single time Schmidt threw a ball.

Did you miss all the other threads shitting on every other player about every other common shortcoming? I PROMISE you no one gives a frick about a high school lol

A young freshman isn't dominating like LSU fans want. Who would have guessed it.

The kid has a ton of upside and talent. Not worried at all. He will get better.

Some of you need to lighten up on Schmidt. He has serious talent, but is just going through growing pains. Not every sure fire prospect comes in and shines their freshman year.

Cade Anderson struggled last year. Look at how he’s pitching this year. He’s, by far, the best pitcher on the team. Massive improvement.

Let’s give Schmidt some space and let him develop.
