You look at the entirety of the season.
What he threw on Saturday was the second most during his entire season and it was the last game for him...

Where are all the little girls that cried so much after the CG game vs OU? They all said he would have a terribly tired arm this late in the season. Also how the coaching staff was going to ruin him. L O fricking L.

I'm not overly familiar with behind-the-scenes baseball. Do pitch counts adjust for bull pen warm-ups? What about tosses from the mound before the other team comes to bat?

It is objectively NOT a myth, but it was developed around 4 days rest for MLB. There are also other factors that go into it and one of them is high pitch count innings.
