That’s what I pointed out. Low and away makes him look, well, like a freshman seeing an actual slider, from SEC caliber pitcher. He will learn to lay off of those, or sit and drive if they’re catching corners. He’s young, but very talented, it’s going to be fun watching him grow into another great.

Good post.
It sucks when Kling does get on base we don't use his speed to steal more.
To your point about his skill set he should be in the lineup but is frustrating when he is he isn't being fully utilized.

I definitely do not think we are hitting on all cylinders right now. I would like to be peaking here in a few weeks going into the playoffs. Frankly I am worried about pitching and the lack of a solid rotation or bull pen more than hitting. Don’t get me wrong hitting concerns me as well. Thompson needs to move to the 8 hole. Travinski needs to platoon with Beloso other than that the lineup is what it is. I don’t think we have been playing our best ball since really the SC series.

Jones is the wrong guy to pick on. It's not his fault he has to be under the microscope as the 3rd most consistent hitter.
Can they win it all with him as the 3rd guy? Im not sure. It was great when he was the 5th and 6th guy team's had to focus on.
All that said he has been very consistent. He shouldn't get shite on for the other guys not holding their weight.

Agree. I like Kling a lot. Honestly I think he should be starting in RF. Let him take his lumps and see pitching. Jobert is a liability at this point. He’s sketchy in the outfield and inconsistent at the plate. I like Jobert too, he’s a good player, I just think Kling is better and has a bright future.

The 27k from Dugas is incredibly disappointing.

If we could get Kling hot a lot of things we can do with him. He has showed power and he has speed.
We could possibly construct a line up like this on Saturdays:
1. Morgan 1B
2. Dugas
3. Crews
4. Tanks
5. Travinski c
6. Kling RF
7. Jones DH
8. JT
9. Pearson/Jobert LF
Hayden protects Tanks, Kling if he is on can force you to throw a fastball to Jones, if they load up on low and away sliders and curves he can take second.

Finally, crunching some numbers, if you remove Crews and Tommy White from the statistics in SEC play, LSU, as a team, hits .243.
What’s the SEC average if you factor out the top 2 batters on each SEC team? This stat is extremely disingenuous.

So the LSU on-base percentage is better than league average, even without its 3-4 hitters. I’ll take that any time.

Dugas is by far the most alarming to me. He has looked lost in probably over 75% of his ABs since the injury. He also cannot get the barrel around on fastballs on the inside part of the plate. He has always struggled with off speed pitches but now his fastball hunting isn’t even working. It’s hard to say it’s injury related because he still has good swings from time to time, but they are few and far between. Good thing is he still has plenty time and reps remaining before we really need him to turn it back on.
Morgan went through a bit of a slump but he’s made good contact lately and seems to be coming out of it.
Beloso has regressed to the mean. He may need to start dropping a bunt or two down the third base line just to get on base. His power hasn’t been there lately and the shift has neutralized his line drive stroke.
Jared Jones is who he is. He’s going to strike out a lot. But the XBH have been essentially non existent. You’d expect plenty of doubles out of him to go along with the homers. Just hasn’t been the case.
I would DH travinsky over Beloso. Kling needs to get as many reps as possible. I’m holding out hope that Pearson can find his groove but with Kling back he may not get many more chances. I have also considered moving Morgan back to first, but that gets rid of another bat in either Jones or Travinsky. I haven’t been impressed by Morgan in the outfield. Some tough decisions to come for sure.
I think we’ve reached the point where the absolute grind of the SEC season has caught up to us. Even the last couple sweeps were grinded out. I would tinker a little bit, maybe give some guys a day off here and there for the next couple of weeks.
Ultimately, going through a bit of a slump in May is fine. As long as it doesn’t carry over into June.

Lester Earl
Personally I'm leaning more toward
1. Tre -LF
2. Crews - CF
3. Tommy - 3B
4. Dugas - 2B
5. Jones - 1B
6. Thompson - SS
7. Travenski - C
8. Beloso - DH
9. Kling - RF
Maybe on Saturday's swap
Travenski in at DH
Milazzo in at C
Ty seems to bury that slider and over throw his FB quite often. I think Milazzo behind the plate for him could save us some bases

Fans thought LSU had nine players other than the starters who could win the Sun Belt.
When in reality they don’t have 7 other guys that can even maintain league average.
If you want to find out what other teams are doing, feel free to look yourself. I’m sure there will be some variation.

Do you think Crews and White will no longer be in the lineup? Because Crews and White are on this team and in this lineup so this stat doesn’t mean Jack shite.
I really want to know how many SEC teams are hitting better than .243 when you take out their top two hitters.

Those are a lot of cherry picked stats to try and make a point. If you take the best 2 hitters out of the lineup we would be much lower. Well no crap every team would. Why do you keep using the kentucky series as some sort of important point of relevance? Because it is around half way through conference play? The conference games before that series were against better teams and actually give better context on how we will fare in the postseason. This wasn’t a good series offensively but that’s fricking baseball. You have watched enough to know better

If I was an opposing pitcher I would throw low and away every time to Jones.
This is easier said than done at the college level. Yes the top guys can hit their spots consistently but majority of college pitchers make mistakes all the time and Jones crushes mistakes.

Being below average at the SEC level doesn’t mean they wouldn’t be able to hit and win at the sun belt level.

What’s about
Thompson
Tre’
Crews
White
Jones
Dugas
Beloso
Travenski
Kling
I like Tre Crews White in the 2/3/4 spots.
Thompson can hit and run. Why not throw him back up there and see what he can do?
I like your swapping Milazzo/Trav with Ty.
ETA: really after looking at the OBP% and Thompson’s SO/BB/AB I might take that back. Maybe just keep it the way it is, but get Kling and Trav in there more.

quote:He's just demonstrating how poor the rest of the lineup is hitting which is a good example as to why we struggled so much on Saturday. Even with Tommy hitting well- Crews goes 0/4 and we can't find a way to scratch across more than 1 run in 3 bases loaded situations.

Tre has improved late in the season
Tommy is just about on par with where he's been.
Crews had a bad weekend but it is what it is, he's not invincible. He'll be fine.
Jones has been on par with where he's been (.300 hitter, lot of strikeouts and a lot of power)
Jobert and Pearson are weak. They just are. 1/4 with a single is the best you can hope from either and the numbers show that. Kling has a lot more potential and his speed can help us
The three that have got to get it together are the Dugas, Beloso and Thompson. Beloso has to have more hits if he's our DH. Thompson and Dugas cannot continue striking out at this pace. If these three don't improve I fear we're going to lay an egg in the post season and then have to pray that our day 3 pitcher doesn't walk in 2 runs and leave the bases loaded with no outs in the first.

I don’t mind Dugas leadoff but I don’t think you can hit him 4th. He can set the table but he isn’t making enough contact to drive in runs. That’s kinda the idea of this thread
I think they will probably play Travinski more at C to chase the optimal offensive lineup, that is just Johnson’s M.O. Even more so now that production is dipping a bit overall.
I don’t think the order is as much of the problem as the personnel.
Dugas-Morgan-crews-white I wouldn’t mess with much. After that Jones-Beloso- travinski in some order. Thompson/Kling see clear 8-9 guys imo. Or milazzo if he is in the lineup

Nice breakdown, but taking out any team's two best hitters will tank a lineup's numbers.
- Travinski needs to be in the everyday lineup, even if it puts Beloso on the bench. Use Cade as a matchup PH until Trav cools off, and he can still DH when Travinski is catching.
- Jones is a borderline disaster at first base, but I'm not sure you can afford to put him on the bench. You could put him at DH when Travinski catches, then go Pearson and Kling as your corner outfielders.
- Speaking of Pearson, his 2022 late-season bat is exactly what this team is missing. Contact guy that hits to all fields. Just a tough arse out. I'm unsure how many more chances you can give him, though.
- Kling doesn't need to leave the lineup. His defense is elite, and he had some nice swings this weekend.
For LSU to make a run, Thompson and Dugas must find it. Dugas has shown flashes over the past week that he may be rounding into form. I feared Thompson's bat would go to shite when he had that power surge around the South Carolina series, and it has.
This all may be a gross overreaction. Had Crews played just average this weekend, LSU comes home with 2/3. I can't imagine he'll slump for a month.
