Analyzing LSU projected win total for 2022 season

The countdown to the 2022 season for Brian Kelly has reached the under 100 days mark and with three months until the Tigers suit up in the Superdome for game one against Florida State, the projections on this team are already flooding in.
On Monday, 247sports released a national piece reacting to projected win totals for every SEC team from DraftKings. LSU was the bottom end of the conference in terms of wins, with the line for the purple and gold projected at seven, beating out the likes of Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Missouri, Auburn and South Carolina.

It’s a number that isn’t completely unexpected considering the massive overhaul this program has undergone in the last six months but does require a little more of a deep dive. Here’s what the 247sports national desk had to say about the Tigers projected seven wins.
“Even; Seven wins — maybe eight — is the right number for the Tigers this season. Brian Kelly inspires confidence as a head coach, even during his first campaign with the "big boys" in the SEC, but the back end of the slate is treacherous and there's a chance LSU could lose its final three SEC games in November (Alabama, at Arkansas, at Texas A&M). If this helps, the Tigers are closer to an 8-4 finish than 6-6 if we're projecting here and you want to sprinkle a few bucks on the over total.”

If we win 9 we ought to be happy. But I would like to see us win 9 with a .500 conference record considering how much we're paying Kelly. Gonna need to win the close ones. But pretty much everything but the D-Line is a giant question mark talent-wise.

Don’t forget the WR corps. That WR room is INSANE

We will win at least 9.

I'll start by admitting I lean overly critical and thus a bit negative, but I think this team is at minimum another year out from being there. This team still has very little depth at many spots. I think that's being majorly underrated. Trying to field a high number of starters or immediate backups with transfers doesn't Usually work out (key word being usually). LSU is STILL not even to the 85 scholarship number yet.

7-8 wins should be the floor next year. Coaching cost us games last year and we’ve improved that 10 fold.

Not a chance in hell that they lose all 3 of these. Our worst team in 20+ years beat that same A&M team last year.
Arkansas squeaked out a win against this same horrible team. Not saying they have a shot at beating Bama but let’s not forget we had them by their arse until the very end in BDS last season.
A&M is smoke and mirrors. Arkansas is more of a threat IMO. They have a solid culture there and kids are buying in big time.

This is not an LSU problem this is a CFB in 2022 problem. Many programs across the country have the same issue.

Agree with you on Arky vs Ghey&M. Arky is on the rise and has momentum. Pittman has the buy in from the players. The aggies getting hyped in the offseason is now an annual trend

Looking at the schedule, I see:
3 sure wins (Southern, New Mexico, UAB).
2 likely wins (Miss State at home, Florida State in the Dome).
4 tossups (at Florida, at Auburn, home against Ole Miss, home against Tennesee).
2 likely losses (at Arkansas, at A&M).
1 sure loss (Alabama).
8-4 seems like a solid first year, some growing pains but a couple respectable wins too. I'd say the huge thing is to go at least 3-3 against the tough but winnable games, being Tennessee, Ole Miss, Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, A&M.

We should win 9. Every year LSU has more or just as much talent than anybody in the country except Bama. 9 I am hoping for 10.

The teams depth is concerning so overall team health will be the biggest factor. If we stay healthy I’d say 9 or 10 wins is easily attainable because our 1s are as good as anyone save Georgia and Alabama. However if the injury bug hits us, I don’t think we have the depth to compete with the top teams.

I've never seen a team get so much love for going 9-4. Their fanbase acts like they went to the damn playoff when in reality they were dangerously close to going 6-6.

Screw that, I already put $250 down each for LSU to win the National Championship and SEC championship. +6000 and +4000 odds, We Ridin’ to a $25,500 payout.
ETA: $100 down for Myles Brennan to win the Heisman.

This. Most people have short memories. The hogs were a well coached team, but they lacked real talent…outside of just a few kids.
Vegas makes money because most people do no research. They gamble on feelings. Good luck, dave.
While LSU is no playoff team, bet over that win total.

We play at Arkansas, A&M, Auburn and Florida. We need to go at least 2-2 in that group.
We are home to Miss State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, need to go 2-1 there.
Florida State is a huge game, like it or not. Win that, and there's a good chance we get at least 8 wins, maybe more if the team gels later in the season. Lose it like we did UCLA, and 7 might be our ceiling.

I dropped 100 on the over yesterday at barstool in lc.

I like 9 wins in the regular season.
I don’t think we beat Ole Miss or Bama, plus we will lose a random game like Tennessee, Florida or Arky.
I do think we will beat Texas A&M though.
