I'd find a spot for Lloreda. That dude had serious post moves, and if you needed someone to go in pick up a flagrant and win a fight.... he was your guy.

If you want an enforcer, I'd go with the insane beast that was Jose Vargas. He doesn't belong on a list of All-Timers overall, but as an off-the-bench specialist, I don't think there's a more disruptive force in our history.

That's how you make teams stay out of the paint

And, oh yeah, Garrett Temple off the bench to stop an opposing guard. Again, not an all-timer, but the perfect shut-down defender

Jose was great. Whenever some opposing team's big started to get on a tear or needed to be stopped, the crowd would just start chanting "Jo-se, Jo-se, Jo-se!" Dale Brown would usually wait a little bit, then signal Jose to get in the game. As he got up off the bench, the crowd would cheer. Typically Jose would then get in the game and put the hurt on the other team's big.

I think the starters are basically set in stone, with

Pistol
CJ
Shaq
Petit
Rudy/Simmons (I prefer Rudy, but whatever),

And unlikely to ever change.

The bench is the interesting part- do you take the next best overall guys, or do you take elite specialists? Like I said above, Jose Vargas and Garrett Temple aren't anywhere near the best players in our history, but as specialists, they emerge.

Vargas: post defense and intimidator
Temple: shut down an opposing guard
Ethan Martin: handle an opponent's (Georgetown/Arkansas) press, and apply our own
Darryl Joe: hassle an opposing point guard
Blanton: energize the team with hussle
Swift: when you want to run

No love for Darrell Mitchell? There would be no 2005-2006 Final Four team without him

one of the best pure scorers in LSU history behind Pete, CJ, and Shaq (not sure if overpowering everyone counts).

Starting rotation:

C Greg Cook (the Cookie Man)
F Rudy Macklin
F Howard Carter
G Ethan Martin
G Willie Sims

Bench:

C Andy Campbell
F Leonard Mitchell
G John Tudor
G Johnny Jones

That was the 1980-81 Tigers. So far they were the best team to ever represent LSU basketball.

This is an all time starting 5 and you leave shaq off, who happens to be probably one of the top 3-4 centers to ever play the game?

This isn't best team ever. Come on bro.

Jose was intimidating but nobody and I mean nobody dunked on Greg Cook. 79 SEC tournament Kentucky's Dwight Anderson drove the lane at end of first half and cocked back to try and dunk over the Cookieman. He ended up with a broken wrist on that attempt courtesy of Mr Cook. He is the enforcer on any alltime LSU team.

People forget how great a defender Swat Mitchell was both Dominique Wilkins and Charles Barkley commented on how he was the toughest defender they played against in college.

Simmons can't shoot he's athletic and can be a mismatch in today's basketball. I doubt anyone on this board was alive to see Bob Petit play I recognize he was a great but he isnt in my lineup

I saw him play in the pros. He was a great shooter and very athletic. I would have him at the 4/3. His mid range game was deadly. I have the best ball handlers in Pistol and Jackson.
Shaq
Pettit
Maravich
Jackson
Macklin

Bench
Roberts
John Williams
Derrik Taylor or The Silent Assassin or Jamie Brandon. Can’t decide right now
Garrett Temple - need a lock down defender.
