That 07 UF game will always be legendary to me. Didnt he go for it on 4th like 5 times in that game? And got everyone? What a wild year that was. Easily the best year of college football of all time.

You could probably include JJ’s jump pass vs UF in 2011

Les tried a fake field goal against Bama in 2012 where the holder throws it to the kicker on a swing and it got blown up.
Now added. Thanks IM_4_LSU.

Les was always good for entertainment, whether it was press conferences or play calls.

Had we surveyed the CFB landscape after the '04 season from LSU, and the search committee told us they could deliver a HC who over the next ten seasons would:
- Win 3 SECW ('05, '07, '11)
- Two SECs ('07, '11)
- One natty ('07)
- Play for another ('11)
- Have at least 8 wins per season and a post-season for all ten years
My guess, is a large majority of Tiger fans would 'buy.'
Les did so much right as a HC. Apart from the Malleveto fail, his coordinators were solid (Steele slightly below std). We were an NFL pipeline. Guy could recruit.
But after the '08 pick-six season, he installed restrictor plates on his offense and IMO, was content to fight with one hand tied behind his back and never win another championship, i.e., play out the seasons with a great D and STs and anything positive on offense will be a bonus.
And to be fair, had Bama not been given a mulligan, he would've been vindicated in '11. And I'll add, two players really played a major role in Les's demise:
1) Perrilloux - had he been QB in '08, the '08 offense would've been the gold std until '19. More than that, it would've likely kept Les out of his shell.
2) The Honey Badger - had we had him in '12, we likely beat UF and Bama, win the SEC, and we would've dusted BK at ND.

Lots of great ones.
I loved the fake field goal against South Carolina that caused Steve Spurrier to throw his visor. This after Spurrier had been trolling Miles all week by effusively praising Saban.
And the one in Gainesville that led to the win.

Add in that he would go UNDEFEATED in non conference regular season games until his 12th season, and would win seven bowl games against the likes of Miami Notre Dame Ohio State Iowa and Texas A&M in blowout fashion to four losses in last second games (excluding the BS Rematch) against Clemson Penn State and Notre Dame and not a single person would have said that wasn’t good enough.

Correct. Miles was only ever on the hot seat because Saban came back and built the greatest dynasty in CFB history. Being in the division with his predecessor when that was going on was not survivable for anyone, period.
Which makes the miserable haters that love to talk about how they “knew he would fail after the Tennessee game in 05!!!” so laughable.

100%
