The last 20 championships starts with the 2004 season, so that would mean we are tied with Georgia and Clemson with 2 each. If you go back to 2000 then you are correct.
These are the teams that have won NC starting in 2000, teams in bold (Georgia and Ohio State) will almost certainly have a chance to tie LSU, Clemson technically could but I suspect they will not be in the 12 team playoff.
Alabama - 6
LSU - 3
Clemson - 2
Florida - 2
Georgia - 2
Ohio State - 2
Auburn - 1
Florida State - 1
Miami (FL) - 1
Michigan - 1
Oklahoma - 1
Texas - 1
USC - 1
But your point is valid, we have come off of a period where virtually every team was next year U because of the dominance of Bama.

We have won more national championships this century than any other college football team not named Alabama, and that is a fact. That is hardly next year U.

Thanks for proving our point...we aren't next year U. There are at least 20-25 programs trying to win a championship every single year....we have done it more times than every team out there except Bama, this century. That is hardly next year U.
