"Shoot, We Fightin Tigers, babe! We don't back down from nobody! We got 11, we gonna play"

One of the greatest quotes by anyone to ever suit up in purple and gold...and the main reason why Jontre Kirklin will always be one of my favorite Tigers...ever.
That whole post game press conference he didn't hang his head for one second after the loss. He was just appreciative of his time at LSU, thankful to the fans and in awe of how blessed he was to get to have a career at LSU. Wish we had 100 more with that kind of attitude and love for the Tigers. These quitters on others teams should watch Jontres post game speech and be ashamed.

Pretty sure we did in 2020 lol. But I agree, you should always want to compete. It’s soft shite

That was part of self-imposed sanctions trying to keep the NCAA from imposing anything. And it worked.

Gotta be honest…I have no interest in watching this offense in the Texas Bowl against Houston. Nothing about that is appealing.

We don’t matter in this. Younger players and backups aren’t getting frontline reps during the season other than maybe special teams. Bowl Practice is critical for them. It’s a necessity to have that extra time that’s now completely focused on future development.

It’s even more important this year. We need Kiffin and Glasscock to see these young guys that there isn’t a lot of tape on working live. They need to quickly figure who to pay to stay and who to let walk.

I agree. I’ll watch because it is LSU but I would be much more interested if we had a WR playing QB that night

I would love to see them put in a package for Johnson at QB, including letting him throw the football.

I think they should take it as a sign that bowls are dumb.

I go every year when they’re in Houston and can assure you, it’s barren. Would be very surprised if they made their money back.

I don’t understand why you’d turn down the practices

Or the money!

I understand the big 10 is finning the teams that opt out

If an SEC team opts out

The should be thrown out of the conference

I understand that. And you should be able to do something else with your time and money guilt free. But that doesn’t mean it means nothing to the young guys, the guys way down the depth chart, and the fans who want to see lsu play football any chance they can.

The highly-ranked 1969 LSU Tigers football team (9-1) did not play in a bowl game, famously getting shut out of the Cotton Bowl and Sugar Bowl due to a scheduling mix-up with Notre Dame, despite being a top contender for the national championship. The team, after being snubbed by the major bowls, chose not to accept bids from lesser bowls like the Gator Bowl, Peach Bowl, or Bluebonnet Bowl, leaving them out of postseason play entirely.

After being passed over by the major bowls, Coach Charlie McClendon asked the players if they wanted to play in a smaller bowl, and they collectively decided against it, holding firm on their decision not to play.

That is the entire reason to play in any of these minor bowls. You risk some injuries, but the upside is bowl game practice as a teaching time and evaluation time for the next year's team. W/L is really irrelevant since you aren't playing your team for that season.

Playing in a bowl means that you get an extra 3 weeks of practice that you would not get otherwise. Huge for player development. Turning down a bowl game is just stupid.

NGAF about bowls anymore pawpaw or the practice . this garbage system ruined it. they can make up for that all summer with UNSUPERVISED workouts as coaches watch but nor direct

playoffs or bust.. conference title games will be gone before l;ong also

Should teams that have qualified for a bowl and turn it down be penalized the following year from qualifying for a bowl?

ND should be so embarrassed. I lost whatever respect I had for Marcus Freeman. Beat Miami and Miami wouldn't have taken you spot. Pathetic

As I remember, the year LSU passed on a bowl was the COVID year. That is NOT the same as having a depleted roster.
Wasn't this a self-imposed bowl ban to satisfy the ncaa over the OLOL stuff?

LSU should always play in the bowl. Id rather lose than not play. "Fighting" Tigers.

I’m guessing in 4-5 years bowl games will be defunct, replaced by a 32 team playoff. I’d rather watch that than LSU vs Houston in the Texas Bowl.

Expand the play off to 16 teams and get rid of the of the meaningless bowl games.
