the screen attempts epitomizes that game. it was a war. auburn defended some of them nicely. on others, lsu got a great gain.

burrow isn't perfect but, he can make some amazing throws, he's unflappable and he's a better runner than people are giving him credit for. how many shoestring tackles did auburn make on burrow runs? he would have had some impressive rushing yards if it weren't for miracle tackles and moreau whiffing.

and at the post game commentary that burrow is a "game manager." a game manager doesn't make that td throw to dillon or to anderson on the conversion.

he was throwing to the guys he knew were being interfered with
the giles throw late was absolutely crafty. he put it right where interference would be called. the guy is a gamer

A significant number of the incompletions were passes that JB put where only the LSU receiver cold get to them, and were right on the edge of the receiver having a chance. Better to throw a pass where maybe an extraordinary play by the WR would have resulted in a completion and otherwise it's incomplete, than to throw closer into the coverage and risk a turnover. One of JB's more significant stats is 0 turnovers. He knows out WRs are capable of making great plays (the 71 yard TD, the catch on the sideline in the first half, the 1st down catch in the 4th quarter on the sideline), and he doesn't care about his stats if the throw on the edge of catchability happens not to be caught.

Yep. That was one of my observations. I think I only saw one underthrow too (the sideline pass to Anderson that was reviewed), which is a good sign.

Other thoughts...

-When they weren't committing PI, Auburn's DBs had some great coverage.

-Burrow looked very sharp on his throws over the middle. His receivers are always able to catch it in stride. That paid off big time with the TD to Dillon. That facet of the passing offense will be important against UGA and Bama.

-Had a couple of decent plays in the screen game, but that aspect of the offense still has a lot of room to grow.

-Burrow may not be Deshaun Watson, but he's definitely athletic enough to avoid a sack and pick up a couple of yards. 2nd and 8 is a lot better than 2nd and 15. I think Burrow avoiding those big losses was quietly one of the reasons LSU pulled out the win.

-Out of Burrow's 34 attempts, I think only 5 or 6 could be classified as poor reads or throws. As was already said, a lot of his incompletions were deep shots where only LSU catches it or nobody catches it (I counted about 8 of those). If the receivers come down with just 3 or 4 of those passes, Burrow stats look All-SEC.

Dillon over the last two games but I’m glad he finally showed up when we needed him to, world class speed
auburn is going to review that play and criticize the angle the safety took but, he wasn't going to catch dillon. that was some serious speed. the only way the safety was going to get to him is to have known the play in advance.

I’m pretty sure that was the gameplan. Auburn’s secondary has made it a habit of grabbing all season, so Ensminger knew he could exploit that.

The outcome could've been quite different had some of those calls not been called....particularly on that 4th and 7 at the end

I just want him to pick up his feet when he runs! He misses out on a lot of yards from shoestring tackles.

He still needs to work on his progression some,

I've watched this about 10 times. He made some bad choices where to go with the ball MULTIPLE times. A few in double coverage, and missed some that had separation. Obviously needs work on the deep ball.

But this is progress and the dude made some clutch throws inside 15 yards, which is precisely what LSU fans have been asking for the past few years.

he has been tested against two very stout defensive units
Miami and Auburn are absolutely two of the best defenses in the country, so for him to be throwing the ball so well with our OL is amazing, and it feels like hes still figuring things out, so next week will be better than this week, and the week after that will better still, and so on.

At 5:15, worst no PI call in history.

It looks like E actually called more than 40 pass plays if you add in PI calls and the times Burrow had to escape and run.

This is Miles away from the previous offense.

Thanks for posting OP.

He absolutely did this on at least 2 occasions.

Don’t think he did it on every call but there were a couple where the WR was trying to turn back to the QB and then he threw. One was to Giles

I see what you did there. People are also forgetting that this was only his 3rd start ever. He’s learning as he goes, and I know he’ll get better as the season goes on.

PI plays are still counted as a pass attempt...if I recall

How do pass interference calls factor in his completion percentages? If a receiver is interfered with, does it count against the QB?
