If Mainieri had criticized Bregman you'd be here accusing PM of throwing his former player under the bus.

No matter what Mainieri does, you criticize him for it.

No. What Mainieri should have done is not mentioned the situation at all. Nobody asked him about it. He begged the media to ask him about it just so he could give his prepared speech. It was forced and unnecessary. Now Mainieri looks like a fool.

I'll step out of this thread now and let you continue fellatiate Mainieri.

coaches, especially college coaches, can have very personal attachments to former players, much like a parent/child relationship. I think you're overreacting to a coach defending such a player much like a parent would do defending a child who was caught doing something wrong. It's not a big deal at all. Who cares if he commented on the situation? Does it have any effect on anyone, the team, etc? No, it doesn't. Him making comments, whether asked about the situation or not, is a big nothing burger

I bet you would post the exact same thing if LSU lost the championship due to the Alabama team doing the same thing

This “everyone steals signs” argument is such a blatant homer cop out. If Bregman weren’t involved 100% of this board would be calling for heads. Stealing a sign off a sloppy catcher or coach then using signals player to player or the like is within the game and always has been. Using tech outside the lines and electronic buzzers is far far beyond the line to cross. Bregman is a scumbag, he was one of my alltime favorites but he’s disgraced himself and the game that made him. You same hypocrites cry foul when the patriots get caught filming practices but are now defending worse. Typical Rantard nonsense.

90% of all mlb players were using ped's (steroids, adderall, otc stimulants, that are now banned. I don't understand how the hof voters can keep the very best players from that era out when everybody else was doing the same thing, they just weren't as good.

Using steroids gives you more power. It doesn’t help you hit better.

So they risked their career by using something that didn't help them hit better?

You guys really need to read Jayson Stark's breakdown of the 2017 Astros' stats. Some of them are crazy. They struck out 300 times fewer than the year before. They had 200 less Ks at home. It's the best one-year improvement by any team, ever. Stark breaks down a ton of other stats that are crazy. I know sign stealing in baseball is a thing, but having a budgetary line item for "Dark Arts" and having the greatest one-year improvement in the history of baseball is another thing.

LINK (It's behind a paywall for those of you who aren't OT ballers.)

Kinda like the one where the hit waaayyyy better on the road. You know away from the home field where they had the feed...

Starks article doesn’t take into account the massive change in philosophy of the front office going from high K 3 true outcome guys like rasmus and valbuena to more contact with aoki reddick etc.

FTR I hope they keep on banging. Everyone else is doing it. To quote The Godfather Carlos Beltran the Astros were way behind sign stealing when he arrived in 2017

Everyone = Boston?

It’s a null title. That team is a group of pieces of shite. Especially Bregman

U mad bro

No everyone as in the half dozen or so organizations Beltran had been with in his 20+ year career including the Yankees who the Astros played in the alcs. he was with the Yankees the year prior to the Astros, was an all star at the age of 38 and had a .200 point improvement in his OPS at home with them. But I’m sure they stopped once Beltran left

It would be a lot easier to let bregman slide after this if he wasnt such a huge arrogant prick while he was doing this shite.

The stunts he pulled while blatantly cheating with the all the bs they pulled during this run makes it much tougher for most to just let these guys apologize and move on

It will be a topic for most of the season

Well Bregs, you fricked up.

However, have another great MVP type season and this all goes away fairly quickly.

As an Astros fan, that was beyond disappointing today. Frankly, embarrassing.

Unfortunately Correa spoke truth to power and he should have been in front of that mic today and was not.

Altuve was reading from a prompter it seemed like, trying to pronounce words that aren't even in his English vocabulary.

Weak.
