He was the most dominant lineman I ever saw at LSU. Dude was straight bulldozing guys in the 28-21 win against #1 Florida in 97.

if the tragic accident doesn't happen to eric andolsek, i wonder if he would be in? i know it's tough for a guard to get in

Not a doubt in my mind that Andolsek would have been in. He had gone like a year in a half of not giving up a sack and was destroying defenders with his blocking. Was only 25 at the time of his death.

William "The Refrigerator" Perry described him as the best OL he has ever gone up against.

But this thread isn't about Eric! Faneca deserves it and was a GREAT Tiger! I use to see him in downtown Thibodaux all the time for Mardi Gras!

He’s only mad 4 pro bowls and all pro first team twice and second once. That’s not a hall of fame career. Do I think he was snubbed while in Cincinnati, yes but there are tackles that haven’t gotten in and probably won’t that had better careers. Take off your purple and gold glasses.

IMHO, and with apologies to Mawae , Alexander, Whit , Andolsek and so many other former all time greats- Faneca is the LSU OL GOAT .

Whit has the longevity for the Hall but he lacks the awards most HOF linemen have. I believe he was screwed a few years and deserved more awards but the Hall looks at awards for OL. That’s a fact that sucks for Whit. I hope he gets in but, the fact is, he’s a long shot only for the reasons I mentioned.

He went over 2 seasons without giving a sack during one stretch in his career in Cincinnati. Yes he is!

That’s what I’ve been trying to say about his career. Being in Cincinnati killed his chances. There are a lot of lineman that have more accolades that aren’t in the HOF. I think there are around 30 tackles in the hall. You have to be great to get in as a lineman. Hell, it took Faneca 6 tries and he’s one of the best guards in the last 30 years. You could make a case for him being the 2nd best in the last 3 decades.

In other words, he played for the Bengals far too long.

Canada was the 2nd best guard of his time behind Larry Allen.

Whit has very good chance to get in even without winning any Super Bowl. Tony Boselli out here in Jacksonville was a dominant tackle and only played 7 years and retired because of injuries. He never won a Super Bowl but I think he will eventually get in.

Now back to to OP. Alan Faneca was stud in college and in the NFL and played with a mean streak and deserved to get in. Happy for Him and LSU.

Let's make that happen! He was bad arse at LSU and in the NFL. Coach O on the clock w this hire..... He would probably work for low pay Y1. Prove yourself and then make another $1MM/yr. to pay for insurances on his vehicles, houses, etc. LOL
