o line and d line are puzzling. i would have thought they would be better. the offense stuff people are talking about in this thread would be working tons better if the o line were more consistent.

pretty much every college team is going to look decent when the d line isn't getting consistent pressure.

other than that, everything looks pretty solid to me. again, jefferson doesn't look nearly as bad as chris todd or crompton.

both lines are still struggling....and we need to quit being so predictable in the Wild Tiger formation. Let Sheppard hand it off or throw it. Mix it up.

We should be able to beat UGA on the road in a shoot out. Our offense is just better.

hard to say. ark's secondary looked like lsu last year. georgia receivers running wild, wide open in the secondary. made cox look fantastic. i can't imagine our secondary being WORSE than what i saw from ark.

we will know Crowton has confidence in JJ when we see zone coverage, the slot receiver (Lafell) reads the coverage and runs a seam route and JJ makes the throw over the LBs and under the Safeties. That is the throw that JLee threw so many picks on (and crossing routes because he throws behind receivers) and that is the throw that Crowton is protecting JJ from right now.

when you can bust their zone coverage with seam routes you can punish a defense. They go man, you slant and GO route them to death. Then you will see the LSU offense of the JRuss and Rohan era. If JJ can't make that seam throw, then we will struggle all year

Evenhanded post, can't really disagree.

And this leads to the extremism spouted from both sides. We aren't the worst team in the world, and probably won't go 7-5. But without an identity to measure ourselves against other teams, we can't really latch on to anything. So people are uncomfortable and they freak out in ridiculous ways.

At the same time, just because we are 3-0 doesn't mean everything is peachy either.

i agree about ciron...dude has given up 1 sack his entire career and now he's getting beat off the end constantly...da frick?

i really would like to see jarrett lee play one or two series....worth the risk IMO rather than having 3 straight 3 & outs

I don't think you are going to see the offensive philosophy solidify until after the MSU game. I know this sounds crazy, but I believe the team and coaches have been searching for an identity all year and that is what has been holding them back. We just have too many weapons, and an inexperienced QB who can't feed them all. We also have an OC and a head coach who are still shell shocked from last year after throwing a young QB to the wolves and watching him self destruct.

SFP I have to give you credit for a measured post, I agree with most of your assessment, at least you give the team credit where it's due, and are not just totally negative.

I stick by my first prediction and say 10-2. Don't know if that will be losses to Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss, Auburn or Arkansas. Like I initially said, the QB has to improve and so does the defense. The only games we were clearly beat last year was Ole Miss and Florida, and we came back against Florida in the swamp to make it a 21-14 game to start the 3rd. We could have beaten bama, arkansas and GA, but the pick sixes and bad defense down the stretch killed us. Instead of 3-5 last year, we should have ben 6-2 in the SEC. I am thinking we win the west and play florida in the Championship game. Not sure if we beat them twice, but anything is possible. At the worse I think we get a BCS bowl, most likely the Sugar Bowl.

Shep's run it, what, seven times for about a 7 ypc average?

I have no doubt that Crowton will mix it up if somebody slows Shep down.

Moreover, I'm sure they are working on that in practice.

If J.J. doesn't improve by the end of the season, Shepard might be starting against Ole Piss and our bowl game.

That's a money post, right there.

He hasn't shown the ability to put any arch on the ball. JR struggled with that early, and over the course of his junior off-season, showed dramatic improvement.

You would think ULL was the perfect opportunity to gain some experience over the middle. Of course, no one could know that Black and Barksdale would be used by the DE's to knock JJ down, either.

Have you used the pause, forward, and rewind on the DVR to track the "progress" of our O-line in the games thus far?

LSU threw multiple 9 routes early to get the ULL safety back and it worked. But when they got the safety back they didn't do much with it with deep slants and crossing routes. So ULL realizes LSU won't make them pay in the middle of the field and plays a lot of zone.

If Crowton trusted JJ more he would have run more option route stuff with Lafell in the slot and let him run that seam route to really punish ULL. But either Crowton doesn't trust JJ with that throw or JJ is instructed to see zone and check down to backs underneath the zone.

IMO, he obviously doesn't trust him, and missed the only opportunity to show it prior to 2 SEC road games, followed with the #1 team in the country.

Now, Miss. St. and Georgia will concentrate their game prep defensing a handicapped offense, mostly because they will be facing a handicapped offense.
