DON'T frickING WEAR USC GEAR i for one hate the condoms that being said I hope you enjoy your trip and the fans are hopsitable to you (just follow the aforementioned advice and you should be fine, seriously i'd go as far as to say that you'd be safer wearin UGA gear) that in mind

Also don't mention how the 2003 national championship was "split". You will rattle some feathers with that comment. There's only one trophy for that and it's on the LSU campus.

wow, I'm surprised you've gotten so many helpful, nice replies.
Honestly, you might not want to wear USC garb unless you're thick skinned. I would suggest just not wearing some superfan, flamboyant scarlet and gold outfit. Tone down the USC pride and don't take anything seriously from LSU fans. You should be treated with great respect, but some select few LSU fans in their drunken state would probably consider anyone wearing USC stuff the enemy.
With that said, you should have a great time. Take advantage of being in New Orleans first and foremost. It has much, much more to offer than Baton Rouge. Get to campus early Saturday morning. I would suggest 9:00am. Just walk around as much of campus as possible and take it all in. If you're wearing LSU stuff, you probably won't be invited in to people's tailgates. If you're wearing USC stuff, you will, but like I said, expect some ribbing and don't take anything personally. Just enjoy the great Louisiana cookin' and hospitality.
Also, make sure to go by Mike's habitat. You can do that around the same time the band goes down the hill. Get in the stadium early to see pregame and when the game starts, cover your ears.
Enjoy your time here!

I think seeing the Tiger in his cage (best to go early for this) and watching the band come down the hill to the stadium (about 1.5 hours before kickoff?) are excellent ideas. However, I disagree on hitting the Chimes on game day since this is a day game. I would spend the time walking around in the good weather and do NOT be ashamed to walk up to folks who are tailgating and introduce yourselves. This will usually lead to a good time and probably some food and drink.
especially if your kids are young, you might want want to hang out hear the tower and the parade grounds - good room for the kids to roam.
If you're able to go out Friday night in BR, you might try the cluster of bars on Perkins. I am not the most up to date on Baton Rouge night spots, but I think Chelsea's, George's, and Ivar's are in that are and I bet Chelsea's has live music. There is also more stuff to do downtown these days but I am WAY too out of that scene to comment!

Maybe you can meet up with this guy:
Advise for a UCLA fan
Check out the link I put in that thread. It's filled with good information.
I say wear the USC gear. If the Bruin can get away with it you should be fine. Be prepared to get some ribbing, but also be prepared for some good hospitality right after.
I'd have to say you picked a good game to come to. The only game that will surpass this in downright craziness will be the Alabama game.

You're invited to the Tigerdroppings tailgate by the flagpole/parade grounds.
You're already making friends, see?
Mike's habitat will be awesome for your kids (and you)
I've got some Trojans in captivity... Mike is better.
Going to a day game really sucks compared to the night games IMO. BUT, this is Georgia and the electricity in the air will be thick.
How the hell did you get tickets?

Take the midnight walk down Plank Rd, it is also a tradition to wear a white sheet for easy visibility. You will make lots of new friends.

What he said.
Get there early and be prepared to eat at the tailgates. Visit many tailgates so you can try out a wide range of different food. Once your eating with Tiger fans it's ok to say your from out of town and this is your first visit.
Welcome, I hope you have a great time and Geaux Tigers!

TD is having a tailgate party.
Make sure to see Mike the Tiger, the band march down to the stadium, Touchdown village, etc.
Fans can get pretty obnoxious before, during, and after the game...be prepared. This ain't Cali.
Have fun.

Don't wear USC gear. I cannot stress this enough. I wish we didn't have such a big contingent of jackasses but we do and you will be fricked with by drunken morons, trust me. Save yourself the headache.

I was at USC when LSU played there in the mid-80ies.The white horse was impressive. The band was very insulting to the LSU fans who gathered around where they entered the stadium.USC was in decline at the time and the atmosphere was rather laid back.
YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE IN FOR!ENJOY!!

I think you should actually make a point to wear UGA gear(seriously). You'll really get a good feel for the atmosphere, and as long as you have a good attitude about it, you'll be well fed.
Oh yeah, if you follow the "eat, drink, eat, drink..." blueprint, add a piss in there every now and then.
