A few of us are headed to Houston this weekend for the Classic. 3-5 LSU fans and 2 Arkansas fans. Tickets are bought. Hotels are bought.

Any advice on bars around the stadium? Restaurants? Things to do? Etc...

We are looking to go to the LSU and Arkansas games, but may explore the city during the Missouri games.

Thanks for all the advice.

There’s 2 bars right across the street you can go to beforehand on Texas street (the home plate and HTX fan tavern)

As far as entertainment, there really isn’t much despite how big the city is unfortunately. And it depends on what time of year you’re in town. The rodeo is a blast, but that doesn’t start until Monday.

The zoo and museum of natural science are first rate if you’re into that. The best place to eat, IMO, is actually Killen’s BBQ in Pearland, south of town.

I was just there for a conference last week. Biggio's is a sports bar that isn't far it has descent food. Tons of tvs to watch. Right across the street from there is the Grotto Ristorante, food was pretty good. The Grove isn't far and it is nice as well. There is a bar not far walking called the Rustic was packed every night of the conference. If you want upper end steak Vic & Anthonys is right there. Don't eat at the Pappasitos in Hilton Americas my meal was terrible. The Pappadeaux across from there is really good though.

If you like going to a pretty cool liquor store go to Spec's on Smith street. There is a huge humidor awesome selection of any type of liquor or wine you may want. I shop for customers there and always find something new.

Houston has an incredibly under rated restaurant scene. There are many great places. If you just want to stay downtown, there are tons of options. Just use Yelp and you should be in good shape for food. This city pretty much has it all but it’s just not easy to find or get to.

If you want a loud place with lots of woo-woo girls, sort of like a college bar, you should be able to find that pretty easily. Unfortunately I can’t help you there because it’s not my thing. Basically head to Main.

If you want a classy, speak-easy, checkout the Tongue-Cut Sparrow. Get reservations ahead of time ...yes it’s a bar, no food. If you want a different sort of experience for food, check out one of the food courts downtown (its not what it sounds like). Try the Conservatory Underground Beer Garden.

Bring a jacket. It’s going to be cold inside the stadium.

Go to Rodeo Goat and grab a burger, they are incredible. Then walk next door to The Truck Yard. One of the best bars in the area.

A few other good restaurants in the area are
-Three Forks
-Grotto Ristorante
-Irma’s
-El Tiempo - get a few Margs and you and your buddies split the fajitas for 4. It will be enough food for all of you.

Check out Pete’s dueling piano bar if you want some night life.

Hit the Heights bars: Mcintyres, heights beer garden, Drift, big star bar (it’s a dump but fun to go experience)

St. Arnold's is a good brewery. Karbach may be worth checking out too. Biggio's at the downtown Marriott is a good sports bar, walking distance to Minute Maid.

If you're into Tex-Mex, hit El Tiempo on Richmond.

At Anrnolds is worth a visit as is Karbach.

A few smaller brews to check out:
-Sigma (my favorite)
-Ingenious
-8th Wonder
-Eureka Heights
-Platypus
-Buff Brew: has an awesome view of the city but their beer sucks

The Friday night game may be freezing cold if the past is any indication. Place was like inside a tomb last time we were there. It is NOT heated at all and, if they do not open the roof that afternoon, all the cold air will still be in there.

I heard the newest soft serve ice cream vessel is...........mini trash can. It’s our attempt to go with the flow.

Houston is now the BBQ capital of the world. Should hit up at least one top shelf BBQ joint before you leave town. Here are some of my favorites (others can add to the list):

Pit Room (not too far from Minute Maid)
Roegels (off Voss Rd)
Truth (Heights area and just off I10)
Killens (Pearland)
Corkscrew (old town Spring)
Brett's Bbq Shop (Katy about 1/4 mile off I10 on Mason Rd)

A lot of bars across 59 from the stadium as well as right across the street. There are all kinds of restaurants including some good BBQ right by the stadium. Not the best in Town.
One of my favorites is Truth BBQ near St Thomas university. It’s not too far away.

There is a parking garage right at the end of George R Brown. There is also one under the discovery green. But there are several parking areas around.
