In school, one of my final projects I chose to design a high speed rail from BR to NOLA because it was a hot issue back then. That was in 2008 .

FWIW, I did get an A on that project.

ETA: I don't support this and think its ridiculous to suggest that sports tickets fund the rail in the first place but also that LSU and Southern shoulder 100% of the cost.

This tax won’t fund 100% of the cost of a passenger rail line.

And there is no justification to tax LSU and Southern fans in the first place.

It would be incredible because that way we can finally get people to commute and not have to use I-10 all the damn time.

I don't even want to know how much it would cost to build a rail system over that much swampland.

Just put any amount of money that this would have cost toward a new bridge to help way more than a train that will barely get used. Wish I could go back and look into how much money has been spent on "studies" on this over the past 20 years.

And even if they could build and run a decent rail system(which they can't), BR isn't set up well to make one useful.

I just don’t want a railway that brings degenerates from NOLA and BR coming through my town. This will make it much easier for these thugs and I don’t want it.

It would also make it easier for NO undesirables to come up to BR

We good, don't need more crime

Collecting $1 per ticket through 2037 wouldn't even entirely fund a rail line between Tiger Stadium and Mumford.
If LSU plays roughly seven home games a year and sells 100K tickets (maybe) and then throw in Southern's tickets, we're talking less than a million dollars per year.
That seems like next to nothing when you're talking about a project like this.

Its the same when every westbanker paid a toll to New Orleans and the money was distributed to the entire state for decades! It is only $1/home game..so 4-5/yr...this would actually help those during other events not having to drive and find parking in NOLA..ETC

The rail is happening anyway and this seems to be a great idea to help it move faster!

Any educated person knows this is not something that will actually pay the whole cost for the rail! There is suppose to be stops in NOLA, KENNER, GONZALES with the eventual stop being in Baton Rouge...so it will likely be used to help fund those projects!

dealing with the eventual rif raff

This is what it's all about.

There used to be a train - right up until they had to let black people ride it too. Then it went away.

True story.

So people can commute back and forth from New Orleans to BR for the convenience man!!

..by driving 30 min to a train station, waiting on a late train, dealing with the eventual rif raff on said train, then catching a uber another 30min to said office. Then repeating the steps at the end of the day. Sounds lovely

To be fair, if they did it, it'd be set up with a massive parking structure and easy Ride Share areas like modern airports.

But yes, the commute to the station and the riffraff would indeed happen. It would be a ton of fun for Saints and LSU fans that live in the other city though and want to attend games without having to drive.

I think Baton Rouge would probably suffer though because the opponent fans would all stay and spend money in Nola and take the train up just for the game and leave. Downtown BR hotels would get crushed.

If it's such a great idea then shouldn't be hard to find investors to fund it instead of ticketholders outside of N.O. who will never ride.
I'm totally shocked no N.O. schools were included in this "great idea"

But why tf doesn’t this apply to saints, Tulane, uno games? Lol
