Exactly!! Chavis is not a big time recruiter and they are far from stacked on D. He will struggle to turn it around and I don't think he makes it past his first contact there.

Hopefully Alleva is using this buyout in some way to force A&M to take Brick off of our hands to make room for O

Every single article and source I have seen mentions that the buyout drops to $0 in the last year of the contract. Every one.

Maybe every single report out there is wrong, but there are ZERO sources saying his buyout runs through December of 2015.

Yeah, exactly like I thought.

Chavis’ contract ran through Dec. 31, 2015.

Chavis signed a three-year contract in 2012 running through December 2014, but he was given a one-year extension in January 2013

His original contract called for a $400,000 buyout in the second-to-last year of the deal. The buyout dropped to $0 in the last year of the contract, which was originally 2014 but moved to 2015 with the one-year extension.
That is the Advocate, which is the primary source for Alleva's claims.

Personally I doubt this ever sees the inside of a courtroom.

You do not think the administration becomes a laughing stock when they have a multi-million dollar budget and they sue a former coach over $400,000 instead of just letting him go? Frankly, if Chavis did not want to be here, just let him go. (Yes I am aware bama sued for way less which makes it even more laughable).

I seriously do not see why everyone is up in arms. We will get a decent DC to replace him, probably for less than it would have cost to retain Chavis. And we still probably kick aTm's teeth in.

Possibly, hell probably. But Dude. If the contract says the damages for breach are 400k, they're 400k. Since when is 400k just "frick it" money? You work for an OT baller start up or something?

$400,000 to LSU is probably like $400 to me and you. I would not sue anyone over $400.

If 400k is owed then they need to go get it.

My season tickets are only what $1,500. If 400k is meaningless to them; then I would like my tickets for free.

If you read most sources, you will learn his buyout for the last year was $0. he owes LSU exactly $0. Even if he owes them $400,000, I would let it go.

Sometimes you just have to stop throwing good money after bad.

TAF pays his salary. Very little of his salary is funded by LSU.

He's puffing up his new job. I'm sure the quote isn't being used to criticize Miles, he's talking about Sumlin.

Who is his contract with? not a troll question- I don't know.

Plus I agree if we are trying to assert claim on some type of verbal contract prior to 12/31/14, but if 12/31/15 is the buyout date then go after it (assuming or legal team thinks it is reasonably assured we can get it)

Stupid way to look at it really. If we wanted a coach gone before his contract was up then we would have to pay up. If he breaks his contact then he needs to pay up as well. 400,000 may not mean a lot to LSU in the grand scheme of things but you sure as hell don't want coaches thinking they can run all over you without you doing jack shite about it either. I don't know the contract but if he owes us the money then go get it. That's a third to half of our new guys first year salary.

Apologies if this has been asked, but why can't A&M pay that--they wanted him so badly.

And we know they can easily afford it.

I am sure they could- generally the coach and the new team negotiate that before the coach takes a new job.

I am assuming Chavis thinks he doesn't owe it, and therefore did not negotiate it with A&M. On what legal advice Chavis made this theoretical determination I don't know.

Why couldn't LSU just pay the fee for breaking a contract with A&M in the 90s?

So many questions...

i disagree with the PR points. Seems to me most coaches would look at it and think chief handled this poorly. Why would they think "LSU did that to him, so they would do it to me too?"

More realistic is "I would have done it different, look at all that talent, $1.5mm per year, IN"
