Call me crazy but I haven't seen anything special.

He looks like he has quickness, but is actually too slow to separate from DBs on routes...or turn the corner on sweeps/end-arounds. And is too little to make contested catches. They force-fed plays to him that ended more than one drive. Wasted targets.

He's a Tiger, so I hope he becomes a playmaker, but I haven't seen difference-making ability.

still don't understand what happened with the punt returns. Kelly spent camp hyping up how electric he was, he botched his first opportunity and then we never saw him again. I wondered if it had shown up in camp and once it happened in game, they weren't risking it again

Probably didn't help that our defense sucked extreme arse and any turnover by us had a very serious chance of costing us a game.

If we had a defense worth a damn, I imagine he's given another opportunity or 2.

The defense couldnt get stops to force punts so we didnt have many punt returns

The question I ask is what does he give that Chris Hilton doesn't? Hilton was very solid in spot duty. He's lightening fast and quick.

Hilton seems to be made of glass. Can’t play two weeks in a row without being on the field injury report.

Unless he drastically improves or grows 5 inches…I’d rather him not see the field.

If fritz leaves Tulane they need to bring McMahon back.

The problem with a guy like McMahon is you lose a recruiter. He’s an excellent special teams coach but it becomes a question of cost vs. benefit.

With the way “analysts” keep gaining more and more duties, I’m not convinced you really need to use one of your on-field coach spots for a true special teams coordinator in this day and age.

Can't duplicate in game jitters in practice....this is what differentiates a reliable punt returner, you simply do not know if a player can take the pressure until he displays it during a game.

Catching punts was the improvement

Fans take this for granted until it costs teams games (ask Auburn). The reality is that very few punts are returned for touchdowns, and with most "electric" returners, their muffs outnumber their TD returns. Ideally you want a sure handed guy back there who makes good decisions, and when the return is there, averages 10 yards or so on his returns with an occassional big return. Especially when you have an offense like LSU had this year, you do NOT want to give away possessions.

Idk if it showed up in camp or not but I think Kelly realized we have the best offense in college football and decided he wasn’t going to take the ball out of their hands.

So send the guy out there who is going to catch it and Jayden and company will do the rest. It worked pretty well.

This was obviously the calculus. Not sure why anyone would complain about it.

The potential benefit of gaining an additional 8-10 yards on a punt return was not worth the chance of a turnover, when your offense is scoring on nearly every possession.

While I didn't have a problem with the general reasoning behind that, we didn't even use the cupcake games to really work on punt returning for the future. It's a wasted opportunity in those games.

And part of the reason that we were near dead-last in opponents' punt avg. was due to a passive scheme and our punt returner not even catching the ball at times (and the ball bouncing quite a ways toward our endzones). I agree that we didn't need to take a lot of chances in the punt return game with our offense, but we also put even more pressure on our offense at times by allowing even worse field position than was necessary.

Regarding Anderson, my hope is that this season was about fully getting over his injury and also just getting into the swing of things at LSU. With Nabers and BTJ gone, I think he'll take the spring and summer to work his butt off and become the talent that he is. Hopefully becomes a 1 or 2 next season.
