A&M/LSU needs to open the season once again

THE rivalry that opens the college football season. LSU doesn't want to play on Thanksgiving, and texas will need to renew the Thanksgiving day rivalry once A&M has success in the SEC. I would personally love to open the season with LSU and finish with texas, just like it once was.

Better than playing on Thanksgiving.

Yeah it's better for your ranking to lose early I reckon.

In a few years it will be a yearly top 10 match up to open the season.

Fortunately now u guys are top 10. Kinda one-sided in the 90's.

I agree with this. I know its been awhile but traditionally LSU-Texas A&M is a early season game. The SEC has made everyone adjust and change so they can save rivalries for the pussies of the SEC Auburn-Georgia, Bama-Tenn, Bama-Auburn. I see no reason why they can't throw LSU a bone and Have the A&M game in september.
FWIW I have no problem with playing thanksgiving weekend, just not on thanksgiving.

I wouldn't laugh at this statement. There is no reason A&M can't be top 10-20 program every year. As a matter of fact its more suprising that they are not. Located in talent rich Texas and now that they are in the SEC they can tell recruits. You don't have to leave home to play in the best conference in college football.

The problem is at the back end of the schedule, not early season. You can't play just anyone the final weekend of the season. Everyone in the conferenc save A&M, Arkansas, Missour, and LSU has longstanding committments that final weekend (even Vandy has a 10 year contract to play Wake Forest that weekend). So, either you pair A&M and LSU, and Arkansas with Missouri, for games that weekend, or you have open dates.
Texas is not going to resume the series with A&M so long as DeLoss Dodds is AD. The SEC has to plan for a future without that series, or Missouri-Kansas, and isn't going to be held hostage by a Big XII school.

No. Mid season or late season.

I agree that it should be the opening weekend. I used to look forward to that game all summer.

no earlier than 2nd game of season.
If your team is not pre-stacked, opening with a difficult opponent is asking for trouble.
start with North Tex, and the like, and go with the SEC opponent the 2nd game at the earliest.

I haven't heard this about LSU not wanting to play on Tanksgiving, BUT I can understand the Aggies not wanting to. After all, it would be hard to digest a good Thanksgiving meal with a football game loss.

opening the seson with a conference game is truly one of the dumbest things Ive ever read
expected from a aggie though

I'm definitely in favor of the LSU-A&M game opening each season.
#1 It will be a great tradition and get everyone excited about the season opener each year
#2 Even with a loss by either team, a season-opening loss is the easiest kind of loss to recover from in terms of the BCS rankings.
I used to be opposed to season openers against tought opponents...but 2011 changed my mind. I felt the entire LSU program (players, coaches, fans) were more "ready" for the 2011 season from the get-go than any other season in our history. Knowing you will have a tough openent on Week1 makes everyone's preperation much more focused IMO. Not to mention it gives your program so much national attention right from the start, which also helps IMO in terms of rankings, etc (as opposed to opening with 2 or 3 creampuffs and flying under the national radar and being basically ignored in September).
All that said, I doubt Les Miles is in favor of that game being the first game on the schedule.

I disagree. I would much rather play them the day after Thanksgiving or that weekend.
