A Story about Why Brice Turang coming to LSU isn't crazy (CPM says 25-50% chance)

I understand how negotiating works and that this could all be a big game just to get more money but after reading about his family, I find it tough to imagine he isn't seriously considering coming to school because of his family.
All of them went to college and were amazing athletes so it is going to be tough for any of them to sit around and tell him to go straight to the pros without considering the things he would gain from going to school.

Each of his sisters went on to play college athletics, and each of them helped kickstart Brice's path to becoming one of the top players in the 2018 draft class. Brianna is the quick-twitch speedster of the family who won a national championship in softball at Oklahoma, in addition to playing four years of soccer. Carissa played at Cal State Fullerton and Oklahoma City University. Cabria stuck to soccer, playing four years at Utah, while Bailee is the athletic "freak" of the bunch as a 5-foot-8 outside hitter on the Southern Nazarene (Okla.) volleyball team.

"A lot of people don't know about my mom," Brice said. "My mom played in the World Series of softball (for Long Beach State). People just think, 'Oh my dad's the athlete.' You're totally wrong."
Brian credits the athletic talents of his children to his wife Carrie.

Growing up with a family full of athletes who played on the biggest stages, won national championships, played multiple sports at the Division I level, that puts pressure on Brice, who is committed to Louisiana State.

Along these lines, Brian always encourages Brice to set his goals high. Don't just make the varsity team as a freshman--be the best player on the varsity team as a freshman. Don't just dream about being drafted. Think bigger than that.
"My goal is to be the No. 1 pick of the draft," Brice said.

We all know that things don't change over the course of 11 months. Especially when the opportunity to make $3MM for scrawling your name is present.

Admittedly, I'm still following the brewers signings and what not. Even though I hold out pretty much no hope that Turang will make it to LSU.
It's mostly because it's the only MLB signing drama we have to monitor this year.
And we won't hear about any other attrition for a while probably. Maybe as late as after the fall semester.

You do understand this article is almost a year old?

Hey, maybe Brice wants to bet on himself go to LSU for 2 or 3 years and become a top 5 pick. Get 5 million instead of 3.5 and one day look back on that as chump change when all said and done. I really think this young man is the type to wait 2 - 3 years for "life-changing $". Jesus Christ, it's Milwaukee for frick sake.

Going from $0 in salary to $3.5 million is "life changing". Going from $3.5 million to $5 million is less so.
Ultimately the huge money is at the MLB level. To get there he has to go through the minor leagues to some degree. Maybe (hopefully) he feels going to college would expedite that process (similar to Bregman) while not having to slum it in the minor leagues which is probably not that glamorous a lifestyle in an of itself.

Come here for a couple year and you can rep LSU baseball for your entire life. You still get to go pro later.

Why does he have to go to lsu to rep lsu? Half of the fans didn’t. And neither did some athletes who follow lsu.

His dad is a former MLB player. 3.5M is a lot of money, but I doubt his lifestyle will change much. I highly doubt he did without at any point of his life. If he goes to LSU, it’s because he simply thought the experience wasn’t worth passing up.

The last I could tell, softball ain't paying millions of dollars to recent female high school graduates.

Wouldn't there be a better chance he goes to a JUCO instead of LSU so he can just get drafted next year?

I don't know about a better chance, but definitely a chance. They're still in regular contact with the staff though, so it seems like LSU is option 2 for him at the moment.

Just my ignorant opinion, but in his case I don't know that juco would really help him out at all. Less exposure, less competition, lesser facilities and coaching. The only reason I could see that is if he didn't want to play for the brewers. He was drafted first round. I wouldn't imagine one year of juco would improve his stock that much.
