But that is the same play calling that was done for JL and JJ and they could not do that. That is the point, not how many were thrown behind the line of scrimmage. Some of you people are just going to Bitch no matter what happens.

I was just joking. I mean, would I love to see us attempt to throw down field more? Of course. Reason being at some point we will have to be able to throw downfield (ie: title game). But I'm just going to enjoy the season. Les is a great coach and his offensive philosophy is what it is. We could swap offenses with southern cal and probably would still be running toss pitches. No sense in complaining about it though. He's the coach, not me. Bright side is we did put up 500 yards of offense.

Even if mett completed 70%, thats still more than JJ or JL had in 4 yrs @ QB on SCREEN PASSES, all in ONE game!...

What is everyone upset about? He averaged over 10 yards per completion. He completed 73%. It was his first game. We ran for over 300 yards. It was a relatively balanced attack. Why do anything different?

Because this was supposed to be one of those games where you work on what needs to get better (hint: I'm talking about the vertical passing game). Why did we need one thousand rushing yards this game? We already know we have 37 guys who can run the ball, and they all have experience. Why did we need to put every screen play we have on film? Pretty much every LSU loss the last few years has been due to a lack of a vertical threat, so why the frick don't we work on that when possible? It's not just about getting a W when you play North Texas, it's about getting better to avoid a future L. We didn't see anything tonight that shows that the pass game (specifically play calling) is improving.

I was happy to see an lsu QB that threw the screen to a spot and allowed the receiver to run into it like it is supposed to Be done

Oh, no doubt the screens were executed better than in years past, but that doesn't negate the fact that it's yet another screen.

I promise I'm not trying to be a douche, but if we're "taking what is given" versus North freakin' Texas...isn't that a red flag? At what point are able to impose our will? Maybe I was over zealous, but I felt like we would be able to do that to a greater degree than we were able to tonight.

We averaged ~7 ypc on the ground to the tune of 316 rushing yards (350 once you take out sack/negative yardage of QBs/Wrs). Hilliard racked up 141 on the ground and Blue picked up 123. The last time we rushed for over 300 yards was in 2007 against La Tech. We rushed for 5 more yards.. to the tune of 321 yards. Without our starting RB from last season.

tl;dr we imposed our will just fine. our OL got chewed out by Mett for a reason.. they didn't play well. from what i've seen the only team on our schedule that is better than us right now is Alabama.. and there's plenty of time for our team to gel for that match up.

Btw those WR screens are money. Insanely difficult to stop with shift receivers like we have. It gives us what is basically an outside run game, keeps #8s confidence up, and opens up the down field pass.

I just wish our TEs were better receivers..

This is the best comment I have seen tonight on Rant! Right on point!

We did see the execution of the play calling significantly improve in the pass game. I saw Mett throw down field a handful of times. How many times is he supposed to go deep before the rant is satisfied? This isn't NCAA 2012.

If we can make that WR screen a staple of our offense I'll be very happy.

Wait just a cotton picking minute! Why did you want Mett to go long? Wasn't it right here on the rant were it was said that Mett. biggest fault was the short passes! We already know he can go deep.

Rant

42-14 IS imposing our will.

It's not honed yet, but the tool is sharp and works.

We passed.

We ran like hell.

And our Defense owned the field.

We're fine. They will tighten up.

He didn't even throw for 400 yards against North fricking Texas and we didn't even crack 50 points. We might as well quit now and hand the SEC to Bama. And fire Les Miles.

A stat for some perspective

He had almost 200 yards passing.

We averaged 150 yards a game last year.

JJ had 4 total yards against McNeese state two years ago.

I think we will be OK.

Yeah but not that many. There were like 20 passes that went no further than 2 yards from the LOS.
