Had my LSU Baseball shirt on when I showed up for pickleball this morning. This older gentleman was there and saw my shirt and asked if I went to LSU. I said no, I didn't get that opportunity, but a bunch of my family lives there and a majority of us were born/raised there. He said I graduated from there in 1962 and proceeded to tell me about a time he got to see one of the most amazing football players to ever do it at LSU. He said he stayed in the dorms below the stadium, One night when LSU had a monster home game he was studying in his dorm. He said the crowd was so loud that he decided he wasn't going to get any work done, so he went up and as he approached the field, Cannon was running straight at him and then down the field with what he said was at the time to be thought of as the fastest human alive. Said it was the fastest he had ever seen anybody move and just a memorable moment at his time at LSU. The guy had a ton of stories, including his roommate that was a part of the "Chinese Bandits" in 58'. Anyway thought I would share a great early morning conversation about the Halloween night in 1959 when Billy ran the punt back for 89 yards.

if urbandictionary were to define CSB, this story would be their example.

I’ve heard the story probably a dozen times over the years from my mother in law who was at the game. I don’t let her know she has already shared the story with me. I just let her run with it.

Seriously, who would try to study in a tiger-stadium dorm during a football game? Why any student would skip a game to study baffles me.

Who in the hell studies on the night of a home football game? Particularly one that is being played inside your dorm building

Ya think?
I bet if you wear an Elvis shirt next week he'll tell you a story about how he tried to study at one of his concerts, but it was too loud to get anything done.

Why are you playing pickle ball with 80 year olds on a Wednesday morning?

Yeah, if Labron James owns pickle ball team, I don’t want shite to do with it, much less finding out wtf it is

Believe it or not, it was not super loud inside the dorm pregame. And some of the guys who missed the games told me it wasn't that bad during most games. I wouldn't know, though. I went to every freaking game.
I did live in West stadium, 5th floor, back in 1980. I procrastinated badly on my housing application. The dorm rooms were on the outer wall, there were storage rooms on the inner walls so there was a little sound deadening as a result.

I had just turned 13. That game was my first game ever in TS. We sat in the ez right on the boundary line. Cannon caught the ball right below us and ran directly away from us. My dad and I were with the parents of Don Kozan's wife who was the sister of my best friend's father. His name was Spike Pierce and he was instrumental in coming to LSU, where he also was playing on a football scholarship. 1964,our freshman year, he lived in Broussard Hall and I lived in the Johnson Hall on top floor right next to the stadium. Great memories.

There were 67,000 seats in Tiger stadium that night and 11,346,852 people claimed to have been there. I'm calling BS on the old man.

Best old standard paddle, good noise, no pads or sandpaper, just thin rubber shield

Then he must have been close to me - We were in the North end zone between the East side Line and the hash marks - Cannon's run was directly toward us. Pandemonium erupted.
OH - then he must have entered the stadium about where Cannon fielded the punt.
