A long way from Troy 2017 (Long)

After being pummelled by Miss State and then losing 24-21 to Troy (definitely should not have lost this game) lots of the TRers were jumping off the bandwagon and on top of Ed O, ready to fire him on the spot. An Advocate article gave some insight into the game (condensed version)
The Advocate 9/30/17
By Ross Delanger
. . .The offense is in a funk.
The Tigers can’t decide on their quarterback, rotating freshman Myles Brennan with senior Danny Etling. Their two most decorated players — running back Derrius Guice and edge rusher Arden Key — have been neutralized. Guice, in fact, missed Saturday’s game while nursing an undisclosed injury (he's missed more than 10 quarters of action this year), and Key is not in game shape, spending several series on the sideline.
The defensive line depth continues to be a problem (no Rashard Lawrence nor Ed Alexander on Saturday), and the offensive line remains a struggling bunch (it needed to start two true freshmen Saturday). That simplification of the offense Orgeron spoke about earlier this week did show up: LSU significantly reduced its pre-snap motions and shifts.
And, now, it’s on to Gainesville, Florida, with this young bunch. How young? Very young.
Just three players on this current LSU roster played in the last game in The Swamp in 2014, and 15 players who played in that 2014 team are now on NFL rosters.
Oh yes, this program’s personnel seems oh-so different in just three years.
That brings us to that attrition issue.
This team does have built-in excuses: the loss of 12-13 starters, including three first-round NFL draft pick; poor depth, especially on the offensive and defensive lines; and a surge of youth that's been forced into action.
But those are not the sole reasons for the struggles.
"Got to do some soul searching and look at what we’re doing wrong," Orgeron said afterward.
He's dealing with a mess. The Tigers played Saturday without 15 scholarship players, each of them with their own reasons for their absence: injury, suspensions and ineligibility. Three of those are starters (RT Toby Weathersby, F-back JD Moore and Lawrence) and another four to five would be or have been key rotational players this season.
Take for instance, the offensive line. Without Weathersby, the Tigers started two true freshmen on the line for the first time since at least 1986, the school said. Another rookie, Tory Carter, partially replaced Moore’s absence as the Tigers’ key blocker on running plays, and redshirt freshman Glen Logan replaced Lawrence.
Meanwhile, Troy played 2 SRs, a JR, and a SO on their DL. On their OL they started a SR & JR(both 3rd yr starters), a RS-SO and 2 SO that all got substantial snaps (>225 each) the previous year. Two of these OLs made All-Sun Belt.
NO EXCUSE-LSU SHOULD BEAT TROY EVERY TIME THEY PLAY
But this was a good Troy team that went 11-2, won their conference, lost by 11 to Boise on the blue turf and won the prestigious(jk) NO Bowl
Still no excuse to lose to freaking Troy but it also wasn't the time to throw Ed O overboard. But some were ready to do that.
He said he would get a big name OC. He would have had Kiffin if Saban would not have vetoed that and got Lane a HC gig.
He tried with Canada but never trusted that offense.
But he found the right combo on the 3rd try.
He has recruited like a MF. He hit it out the park with hiring Pelini. It's time to challenge every year.
And for some of you, it't time to say you were wrong about Ed O, the shrimp boat captain. May he be here for the next 20 years!
So how about it boys.

It’s been three years. Some of y’all care about the “amends” way too much.
15-0.

Troy was a top 30-ish team in America that season.
Bad loss, but you take Troy off their helmets and put an Arkansas or South Carolina logo, and people wouldn't have been complaining nearly as much.

Yeah, Troy could have beat a few SEC teams that year, but they should not have beat LSU.
I was very doubtful of Coach O at that point. But hope came back afterward with wins over Florida and Auburn.

My favorite graph from that season. I tried to tell people what was coming, but their confirmation biases got in the way smh

What's Aggies excuse for still sucking?

While many of us have enjoyed replays of the Alabama,Texas,Georgia, Oklahoma and Clemson games, Lunchbox,Slow Pro, Rick Daddy and Gold Rush have re-lived the Troy game. Without a doubt their favorite game of the Orgeron era.

You seriously need help. You and people like you bring up Troy way more than I do. And then when I respond to you, somehow I'm the one bringing it up.
It's just pathetic.

Well, Troy should have beat us in 2008 if it weren't for a miracle comeback led by the General Lee. The only other time we played them (I think) was 2004 which was also a very close 24-20 win. For some reason, that team has our number.

Yet, the other 3 "top 4 graph" teams listed with LSU went 8-5, 6-7 and 4-8 respectively last year. So obviously, other factors had much more to do with last year's success outside of how many freshmen played.

How dare you try to get in the way of Lester's weird flex.

Are you saying they are our Achilles heel?

2017 felt much worse than just 9-4

That reference was worthy of Dennis Miller. Kudos.
