Given a choice, do you think other memebers of our conference would rather play us in the afternoon, rather than Sat. Nite in Tiger Stadium?
Do you think this influences our opportunites to have the SEC negotiate a contract that permts us to keep our nite games, even when televised?
What real world choices does Alleva have about this?

Except for CBS loses money showing an sec game versus normal programming

I think it was part of the Obama stimulus package.

If you really think nick saban controls CBS, then there is nothing else to say.
Did I say he controlled them? Is it any secret how hard Alabama is lobbying to keep the UT series? Why would it be any different if little nicky didn't want to play on Friday? Do you think their administration would tell him to stuff it and they wouldn't lobby to have the game on Saturday?

I can't stand the fact that TV has more control than the college's themselves over the college football schedule.

It should definitely be a contract negotiation point when the contracts comes up next time. LSU has traditions just like everyone else int he SEC and those should be respected. Third Saturday in October is not more important than Saturday night in Death Valley.

Yes, ONE game. And they take a hit on it.
Bama Florida gets higher ratings than LSU Florida ect
Already proven

Yes, I also see where Alabama-Florida are going to draw more viewers than LSU-Auburn, or even LSU-Florida.

IT'S IN THEIR CONTRACT, ESPN HAS A MONOPOLY ON ALL SATURDAY NIGHT GAMES.
so ESPN can say, "frick you, we control the nights?"

TheDoc,
You make a good point about Nielsen, but those ratings have 2 factors attached to them.
One: Viewership as a whole tends to increase in the night time. More people are free to watch TV.
Two: These ratings are only the alternative of not having a football game to air. If an LSU/FLORIDA, LSU/ALABAMA was scheduled during that time, I'm sure the rating would be great. Just as strong as their normal network lineup.
Plus, they would probably enjoy the advertising bucks the game would bring.

You can thank LSU for that. This year tailgating has been reduced all over campus. In the past I hosted tailgates for all home games rain or shine now only 4 tailgates this year. Next year who knows. Its getting to the point that I probably wont even be on campus for western kentucky and watch the game at home.
I agree the $40 a pop parking has hurt on-campus numbers. but I also think there's a cultural aspect as well. winning has spoiled our fanbase, and there's also the fact that more people are interested in watching other games (mostly due to fantasy leagues and/or gambling) and can't seem to get over drinking copious amounts of beer all day while they sit in the A/C.

In the current contract, yes......so it's a moot point. CBS gets one Saturday night game per year.......period.

At this time of the year...a night game on CBS goes up against:
NASCAR, MLB Playoffs, and the ABC Primetime Game.

Yep
2.5 billion dollars says they do
And the sec signed the contract
Posted on 10/18/11 at 11:01 am to TJG210
didn't CBS do their contract before ESPN swooped in to pick up all the non-CBS games? at that point why would CBS not say we're going to broadcast 1 SEC game in prime time a week, you know, kinda like they currently pick one for 230

you really think LSU has more people on campus that Alabama or florida
yes, without a doubt. unquestionably.

Georgia probably competes with us too
not if you include the number of people who are just on campus tailgating
