Young coach 44 years old
2021 CWS
Directed Arizona to a 49-24 record in his first season at the school and an appearance in the College World Series Finals
First coach in Arizona history to lead team to NCAA Tournament in each of his first two seasons
Became the 5th coach ever and first since 1994 to lead a team to the College World Series Finals in his first year at that school
2016 ABCA West Region Coach of the Year
28 major league draft picks in his short time there
Led Arizona to 49 wins in his first season, the second-most in program history
Led Nevada to 72-42 record in two seasons
2015 Mountain West Coach of the Year
Led Nevada to 41 wins in 2015 (second-most in program history).
Won school’s first-ever Mountain West Conference championship in 2015.
Nevada finished 2015 top-five nationally in batting and scoring.
Helped USD make six postseason trips from 2006-13.
Helped sign No. 1 recruiting class in 2008 and No. 2 class in 2010 at San Diego (Baseball America).
Led PLNU to a 37-14 record as head coach in 2005. Previously worked as an assistant and led program to NAIA World Series in 2004.
His teams knock the cover off the ball. Ended Ole Miss Season this year .
Won the Starkville regional over Miss State in his first season on the way to CWS finals.
Maybe we can do better, but we could do a lot worse.

I wouldn't melt but he seems to be a West Coast guy.

Only negative I see is he is a west coast lifer. No experience in south or SE.
Serrano at UT is an example
ETA- an example of a great west coach coach at SEC school. Fit matters. Not saying he wouldn’t be great, just a potential risk

You give me any one of these and I’ll be thrilled:
Corbin
Vitello
O’Donnell
O’Connor
Bakich
Godwin
Johnson
Now surely Scott Woodward can reel in one of these seven without settling for Bianco.

Skip was from Miami, Saban was from West Virginia, Will Wade was an east coast guy.
Guy signed the #1 class in 2008 and #2 class in 2010 at freaking San Diego
(Baseball America)
10 guys on current team batting over 300. TEN
Team batting average 329
70 Home Runs and they play in that HUGE ballpark

Sully, 7 CWS in 10 Years and he was not good enough for the Rant so nothing will be.

So he was the coach when Kris Bryant played for San Diego?
Posted on 6/19/21 at 2:33 pm to Adajax
Don’t think he’d fit here culture wise. West coastie

Yep, #2 overall pick in the draft
Posted on 6/19/21 at 2:39 pm to Dueces
That would be determined when he came in for an interview.

So if he wins the CWS this year do you just say he's a west coast guy. Not good enough? ??
Posted on 6/19/21 at 2:46 pm to texastigerr
Never said he wasn't good enough. Said I didn't think he would be a good cultural fit. How many West Coast mother frickers are in this region winning?

Augie made transition to Texas and won two Natty’s so it can happen. Difference is Serrano was all small ball and Augie was more power game. It appears Johnson is also more power than typical West Coast small ball so he may be fine. I’m not politicking for him by any means but he wouldn’t be a terrible hire.

I might would agree if Arizona was your typical West Coast (small ball) type team. but he's got big dudes that can Mash. These guys look eerily similar to a vintage Skip Bertman type team.

I'm talking more along the lines of his coaching/recruiting roots and personality. Agree with you on the makeup of their team.

If you can get the #1 and #2 recruiting classes signed at San Diego, I am sure his recruiting would translate here just fine. One of his biggest strengths is recruiting.

Yeah I think scoring those two monster recruiting classes in 08 and 10 may just be his best accomplishment. It's insane the talent he pulled there.
