Not sure that it mattered ultimately, but this going from a walk to a strike out seemed like a big deal in our favor. Do you remember another missed call in our favor that seemed like a bigger deal?

Umpire had to think about that one.

Dude can't sit there with the bat on his shoulder. That pitch is way too close.

The ball was in the right place, but Hendo’s set up made it look off. That ump didn’t need any help to call against us.

Good point. I literally can't think of a similar, pivotal call in our favor under those circumstances.

"Hmmmmm....that was just a bit inside...BUT, I am in Baton Rouge, angry crowd, regional final....STRIKE."

we got some favorable calls all right. the ump's strike zone got shaky at the end part of the game. LR got some too. I remember Derek Curiel got 2 bad strikes called on him on inside pitches and then the ump didn't call 2 inside pitches against our right handed hitter who came up. Royal Hunter was pitching for LR and he got really upset about that.

happens almost every game.

Now show the 3 that the ump froze on when Evans was pitching in the bottom of the 7th. That inning could have been over way sooner and saved Evans about 10-12 pitches.

And how about in the top of the 8th after the strike zone was the size of a dime in the previous half inning, on a 1-0 count he called a pitch much further off that same corner a strike against Stanfeld who was leading off the inning. Would have been great to have him get a leadoff walk to start that inning.

I agree with you.

I was just searching my memory banks for a similarly bad call (WITH a pause to think about it) that went OUR way. Can you remember another? This was like a reverse, Patrick Peterson at Alabama interception.

Agree. It was the pause to think about it part that made this one stand out.

that ball 4 to Larson, everyone in the stadium, including Larson, thought it was a strike.

Some SEC basketball game about 8 years ago (not a NCAA postseason game) our opponent hit a game winning or game tying 3 and they went to the review of the foot was behind the line and the replay showed an obvious travel had happened, The rules don’t allow you to make that call on review so they just ruled his foot on the line. LSU wins.

Our TV angle and catcher position is tough there. It was in fact a strike (or extremely close). Same angle is why so many looked like strikes but were just outside.

Thanks! That's the kind of thing I was looking for. I had to go back to LSU getting home clock operation to beat Ole Miss with the Bert Jones to Brad Davis pass.

I mean it favored us but was the right call

The unfavorable part was the early strikes called balls in the pitch count. Happened to Evans too

He called it a strike, therefore it was a strike. The batter had at least 2 other strikes to hit before that one.

It was the same umpire from game 1.

He was pretty consistent IMO. He had no desire to give anything close off the outside corner. Pitchers got a little more leeway on the inside corner.
