I was in 5th grade. Deputy Ralph Hancock's son was a classmate and friend of mine.

I was going to LSU and working at Steinberg's at the time. People were rushing to buy guns. Mr. Lipsey told us to quit selling guns and ammo. Pretty intense atmosphere.

Sounds like whites were scared of black people and started shooting

My friend and I went to that BB game. After the game on the drive home we heard on the radio there was a bomb threat at the Pmac (not called the Pmac at that time). However no one told us about the threat during the game.
Pmac wasn’t even built yet !

I worked at LNB downtown. There were police helicopters looking for snipers as we were escorted to our cars at a parking lot several blocks from the bank building. I used to drive on Government street to go home to my apartment on Ardenwood Dr. but I took an alternate route that day. It was scary. I saved the newspaper from the next day but threw it out several years ago.

Assembly Center opening was a year away when that happened. I remember it as it was my sophomore year at LSU. But there really wasn't much racial tension around town then. It was pretty localized to that demonstration. Wish we had had police cams back then.

I'm pretty sure the PMAC opened Jan 3, 1972.

The Assembly Center was indeed opened and this Alabama-LSU game was played there. It had opened a week earlier in a game vs Vanderbilt.

Not local news. Out of state. Two completely different events.

The Pmac opened 1-3-72.

The reporter was beaten nearly to death. I remember reading/hearing it was the black panthers. Bob Johnson lived in the neighborhood.

I remember the riot very well. I was in the 5th grade at the time.

My Grandpa delivered him milk each morning. He said he was the nicest customer he had. They would drink coffee together and became friends. He was brain damaged and died years later. Very brutal what they did to him.

I see the New York Times sucked back then too. Holy shite.
