Any oldtimer remember this? Game was scheduled for Monday, the 10th but was postponed a day to Tuesday the 11th. Shootout downtown between EBR deputies and black Muslims. Wild stuff.

Mediocre link, but all I could find where you didn't have to register.

I was in the Louisiana National Guard during that time. During that time period, we went to Ft Polk 3 times a year in addition to the 2 week summer camp. We always had target practice. Everyone I knew pocketed extra rounds in case we were ever activated for riots. Discipline was not the best at that time.

The newsman was Bob Johnson. He was a vegetable for the rest of his life.

They beat Bob Johnson's brains out by the old Lincoln theater. He was covering the riots for channel 9.

It was some black muslim group that came to town and caused havoc.

My friend and I went to that BB game. After the game on the drive home we heard on the radio there was a bomb threat at the Pmac (not called the Pmac at that time). However no one told us about the threat during the game.

Can you imagine how the NY Times would report the riot today?? They would claim police were just randomly attacking black people everywhere...

Two EBRSO Deputies were killed during this 'demonstration'. It was idiots from Chicago, Philly, LA, and a couple of locals that did it. The vast majority of the protestors were peaceful. Always some idiots stirring shite.

I do remember this. We had recently moved to BR and were not used to being around black people. Very scary as a kid.
