Welcome.
You are going to get a lot of BS responses on this forum mixed in with some really good information.
I'd get the gear online before you come. Traffic near a game weekend is pretty rough.
If you want high end gear, I like Bengals and Bandits. Goodwood Hardware also has a great selection of nice stuff.
The roof could be fun there, and the atmosphere will be great, but I don't love the food.
Here is a link to some pretty good suggestions.
LINK
It wouldn't hurt to take a drive through. There will be people out. Generally you can stake you area and lay out your gear after five on Friday, but you can't put up your tent. Nonetheless, for big games, it can look like an armed war camp.
If it is a night game, yes. You are going to need your energy.
Most people will not give away their secret spots. If you email me at judgeholdeninla@gmail.com, and if I am sure you are not a Gump, I'll give you some ideas.
I bring whiskey because it is more portable. But yeah, if you walk up to a big tailgate, tell them you are from Boston, and ask them for suggestions, they will fete you to within an inch of your life.
See above.
The Indian Mounds. They were six thousand years old when Moses walked down the mountain with the Ten Commandments.
Also a lot of big tailgates in that area.
Follow the band in. LSU Sports will post "times of interest" when we know the game time.
Drink heavily. Wait for traffic to clear. Under the new Jermaine Burton rule, feel free to hit a Gump in the face if you feel "scared." (Don't really.)
I like Louie's, but there is some nostalgia built into that.
Let people know you are from Boston and that you came to see LSU. You'll be amazed at the reception you get. We love that.
Also, you may need to learn what STTDB and RTW?FU! means.

1. Where can we get some gear for the game? Our hotel is near Perkins Rowe and Alumni Hall. I'm thinking maybe we get get our rental car, check into our hotel, and then head there to get some shirts. Does that sound good, or would you suggest something else?

That sounds great, but I'm not sure how this will work logistically. I'd think we would be out of what we can comfortably carry in short order and we'll be there all day. Are there places on/around campus to buy more? Are there any local favorite beers or would anything like Bud Light work? Maybe if we parked centrally, we could restock at the car. Any and all suggestions here are welcome as this is probably the biggest question mark for us.

Just saying the bucket list thing and wearing your own teams gear does go a long way to working yourself into tailgates to eat and hang out, but NFL gear is pretty out of place.

I agree. Wear LSU gear. Just tell people where you are from.
ETA: The people in front of me for the Ole Miss game lived in the Cayman Islands. They were decked out in LSU swag, and we all loved it.
By the way, my son went to the BC/Clemson contest up there. He texted me how surprised he was at how sober and well dressed everyone was! He thought he was going to a football game.

I have a similar plan that weekend (planning it since the loss to bama last year) ... have several buddys from college (Lindendood) and my son traveling in for the game. I've converted most to be big LSU fans and this game has been on everyone's bucket list for years. Proud that I've converted several people across the country to be diehard Tigers.
We will be coming in from NC, Memphis, STL, GA and have a house within walking distance to the stadium ...hood adjacent.
Like many have suggested, we plan to hit Chimes and walk around to visit tailgates. I haven't been to TS since 2007, but from what I remember... as long as you bring a good attitude and some booze, you will be treated well. I will be tracking this thread also.

Nope. We're alums of Georgetown, Providence, and Bates. So, some college basketball, but we're your typical northeast sports lovers, which generally means pro only. We know what we're missing though, so that's why we are coming south.
Maybe I'll just wear a "Lost Bostonian" t-shirt. That could have the same effect.

I think there was a time that Belichick was big on former LSU players. Maybe get a Kevin Faulk New England Jersey as a conversation starter.

Get some Bengals gear and tell everyone you're from Cincy and you had to see where it all began. Profit.
Seriously though, you could wear your Pat's gear. That team was stacked with Tigers for a few years.

Of course you may want to bring your own drinks, but as others have said, wear your own gear to stand out, strike up a conversation, and you'll be lavished with food & drink.

It’s not a quid pro quo situation. No need to bring anything at all. Just tell folks who you are and why you’re here and enjoy all the free food and drinks you can handle

Coming to BR from Beantown as well. I will do everyone a favor by keeping a low profile.

You are going to have a blast.
1) Check out Bengals and Bandits. There are two locations. One will be close to your hotel and one is across the street from Chimes. Or try the LSU bookstore- stuff at Bengals and Bandits is cooler...IMO.
2) I'd go to Parrin's or Mike Anderson's for supper on Friday. If you want more upscale, try Louisiana Lagniappe. They do take reservations. I'd do Chimes on Saturday AM/Lunch. They usually have the adjoining theater open and you can sit in there, eat Chimes food, and watch the other games going on.
3) Go see Mike the Tiger on Friday night or Sunday morning. No tailgates happening. You can check online to see if he is in his habitat or back inside.
5) As of satuday there were a few parking passes left. I'd buy one just so you know where you are going and don't have to fool with it. Traffic is probably going to be a pain on Saturday- don't let a $75 parking pass stand between your group and fun.
6) Tailgating- when we bring company in town and don't feel like setting up- we usually will post up at Chimes around noon, stay til 3 or 3:30. Then head out to walk around. Hit some tailgates and slip down to the tiger walk. There are some lunch spots on that north side of campus around Chimes too.
8) After the band walks down the hill, they go into the PMAC and do a little pep rally and play music. You can get beers outside of the PMAC and take them in and listen to the band. After the band plays, its prefect timing to head into the stadium and you will have about 35 minutes to gets beers, bathroom, and find your seats.
Know that traffic leaving is going to be slow. Likely you aren't going to make it to your hotel before 1:00 AM. Maybe set up some chairs and just finish off your drinks in the parking lot. Having a parking pass will put you out directly onto a contra flow route and will make your life easier to get away from campus.
Have a great time!

Parking shouldn't be an issue if you get their early. From your hotel I would travel southeast down Bluebonnet Blvd. until it eventually ends on Hwy. 30 (Nicholson Dr.) Take a right at the light. Go to the next traffic light (Gardere Ln) and take a LEFT towards the L'Auburge casino. When you get to the casino, take a right through the three roundabouts. That will put you on the River Road driving into campus. Stay on River Road (about 10 minutes) until you cross Gourrier Dr. To your right will be the "Hayfield lots". It is a big grass parking lot (with limestone roads). It is free parking. The downside is the route is a bit longer than other routes and it is a little walk from the stadium/heart of campus. The upside is you can take the exact route back out to your hotel and traffic isn't too bad when doing so. You never have to get on I-10. The closer within the center of campus you park, the worse the traffic in and out.
Only park in the hayfield lots of you plan on coming back here to complain about traffic after
From Perkins Rowe area, I would come up Burbank to campus and pay the $50 or so to park at walk ons. Would need to get there early, but honestly, you should be on campus by 9 am anyway. Getting out from there is a breeze compared to parking anywhere on campus (which is across the street)

I think a Patriots shirt along with an LSU cap would be fine. Make sure to have something LSU for sure.
People will talk to you about LSU players with the Patriots over the years. Big names being Kevin Faulk, the late Marquis Hill, Stevan Ridley, Jarvis Green, and currently Jalen Mills and Davon Godchaux, just to name a few.
Enjoy the trip!

1. Try bengals and bandits. That's where I get my gear from. Lots of good items.
2. Chimes, walk-ons, etc are fine. I'll let others chime in. Expect a wait at most places
3. BTE is playing at Lauberge.
4. Elsie's Plate and Pie on government is a solid option. Get there early to get a bloody mary and breakfast and then head to campus.
5. I personally like to have a parking pass near where I'm tailgating. The hayfield and levee lots on the west side of Alex Box are free. A bit of a hike from there depending on your group but there are pedi-cabs and busses that run from that area. Easy to get out onto river road after the game. Check the contraflow map to dictate exactly where you want to be.
6. You'll find that tailgates are responsive to visitors if you declare yourself. Another poster mentioned wearing your team gear. Most people on this site will invite you to share a beer on gameday. My advice is to buy a cheap backpack cooler for yourself and be prepared to throw it away on your walk to the stadium. Don't bring anything that will be cumbersome to carry all day or try to get into the stadium as coolers and backpacks are not allowed.
7. Food will be plentiful if you can make a few friends. See beer comment above.
8. Habitat, players and band coming down the hill. That area of campus is packed with tailgates and things to see.
9. I try to be at the seats 20-30 minutes before kickoff. Plan for lines if you need beer, bathroom, etc. Make sure to see the band pregame.
10. Again, check the contraflow map for your exit strategy. Otherwise, pack a cooler in the backseat and enjoy a couple while traffic dies down. Depending on the outcome, there are several tailgates around the stadium that you could probably go to
11. Elsie's plate and pie again if you can't get it on saturday morning. Mason's is on the otherside of town but it's a staple for us for a good breakfast with an emphasis on local cuisine
12. Have fun. Take lots of videos and pictures. There's no other tailgate scene that is like LSU. If you have a good attitude and demeanor, you'll make friends everywhere. Hell, I met a few guys from Illinois in line for beer this past weekend who were visitors just like you. Don't be afraid to throw a bammer or two a "Tiger Bait" when they walk by.
ETA: Get purple and gold shirts made that say We are from Boston or something similar. I would flag you down if I saw that to join our group.

I parked in the hayfield lots and left as soon at the game ended on Saturday. I drove on to River Road (southbound) and did not stop once until I reached the light at Nicholson/Gardere. It was a complete breeze. Of course, I didn't stay and mingle once the clock struck zero. I got out of the stadium, walked to my car, and left.
Contrast that with parking in a pay lot near Alex Box of Gourrier Dr. for the Mississippi St. game. I actually left a bit early because of the score and made it to the car fairly quickly. Didn't matter. No traffic was allowed to leave the lot until cars on Gourrier to Nicholson cleared. It took nearly two hours from the end the MSU game until the time I arrived home. Saturday it took roughly 20 minutes. And that was a longer route distance-wise

1) Alumni Hall is a good place to get LSU gear.
2)Parrains
3)The Bull Dog
4) Masons Grill. It’s about 10-15 from Perkins Rowe in the opposite direction but is consistently voted best brunch in BR every year. It is kind of far but worth it in my opinion. Another broken egg is close to Perkins Rowe if you’re looking for something in y’all’s vacinity.
5) If youre trying to park on south side of campus which I assume you are then park in tiger land and walk or take the shuttle from la berge.
6) Bring light beer, act friendly, somehow mention it’s your first lsu experience and you will meet people.
7) Try to find a tailgate that has a big pot of something. Offer to tip some money and you should be able to get food. Don’t plan on getting a table at a restaurant but at the same time try to eat before entering the game. You will find much better food at the tailgates then inside the stadium.
8) Pretty much covered everything.
9) I would go in an hour early just to see pregame.
10) Just follow the flow, no real way to get around it.
11) Masons, Louie’s, Chimes
12) Drive to Nola if you have time Friday.
