Imagine the PR nightmare if Mike scalped a Seminole mascot in 2025….the softening continues

Check the 2 hour 48 minute mark of the full game video I linked above. You may be able to see yourself but maybe not with the fog and oranges

Great night! The end of the game was unbelievable with the fog settling and orange dropping like rain.

CBS had tried to talk Bob Brodhead and LSU into moving it to afternoon for television. Glad LSU said no.

As crazy days go, earlier that afternoon was the "Stanford Band Play" out in Berklley.

Back then, bowl representatives went into a team's locker room to issue invitations to participate in a game. At this game's conclusion, no one left until the stadium announcer (Sid Crocker?) said that the Orange Bowl had extended, and LSU had accepted, an invitation to play in the game.

Also, back then, cheap stadium seats could be rented for $1 each. They were flimsy things, with cushions and back supports that just slid over the frame of each chair. When it stopped raining oranges, because everyone was out, cushions and seat backs were separated from their frames, and they were tossed like frisbees onto the field.

And finally, when the fog rolled in, I recall having a difficult time seeing some parts of the field from my low spot in the student section. So if I had trouble, there's little chance those in the upper bowl, and West Upper Deck, could see ANYTHING. Yet in spite of this, no one left early. People stayed until the Orange Bowl announcement was made.

I graduated less than 4 weeks after that fantastic night. Thanks for stirring those memories!

I was there - season tickets in the south end zone, but had a great view of the "orange rain" from the student section.

That was the first LSU game I ever went to. I was almost 7. Remember asking my dad why everyone was throwing oranges.

We ate at the Pastime on the way in and then he and the crew we were with stopped at the Cotton Club on Highland so they could get plastered

Ah, the good old days, when kids could accompany their parents into bars, and so long as the kids themselves weren't trying to drink, no one said anything about it!

in TX an underage kid can be served alcohol in the presence of their parent, as long as the parent doesn't leave them unattended

Thanks for posting. One thing that stands out for me, the defensive players were bringing the lumber every single play. I bet the FSU players took a lot of time recovering from that game. Also, forgot about the Dalton and James gang!

For those under 50, Bobby Bowden was the top choice to replace Charlie Mack. LSU offered him the job prior to the LSU/FSU game in 1979. Bobby has stated multiple times since then that he intended to take the LSU job if FSU didn’t beat them in 1979. Obviously FSU won that game , so it was nice to kick their arse in 1982.

One game I'll never forget.
Funny how they let us in with bags of oranges.
And then the FOG. Unbelievable.

We were in the lower endzone and couldn't see the upper deck.
