Jerry Stovall has never really gotten the credit he deserved for stepping up to the plate for LSU in that time.

Hard to believe it's been 40 years already. The Principal of at my junior high informed me.

The start of the decline. Stoval and Arnsbarger both had a couple good years, but mostly mediocrity, and then the bottom dropped out with the Three Stooges and the 90's.

LOL LSU went to 2 sugar bowls and 1 SEC Championship under Arnsparger. There was nothing mediocre under his tenure

Hard to believe how close Carly's accident came to this 40th anniversary. God willing, I hope we go another 40 yrs without such a tragedy.

I learned about it on WFMF and remember the conversation at the school bus stop. The gloom in Baton Rouge was pervasive.

Aside from the personal tragedy, one of the great "What if's" for LSU. I remember going to school and hearing about this from a girl in class who's dad was an assistant coach. Terrible time.

I remember the day like yesterday. Heard about it from a classmate as I was opening my locker at BroMo and was devestated. Always wondered what a Tiger team would have done under Rein.

I grew up in Raleigh and had season tix to NC State. He was a good coach. Would have been interesting to see what he could have done in Baton Rouge. RIP

Bo Rein was heralded by most everyone in the business as THE up and coming coach in college football. It is scary to think that Bo Rein could still be coaching LSU today. If (IF IF IF) he was everything everybody said, based on his talent AND his age he could have stayed here 40 years.
