While LSU was playing Ralph Sampson and Virginia in what would be the last ever Final Four consolation game, President Reagan was being rushed to the hospital after being wounded by John Hinckley.

And Jim Hawthorne inadvertently snapped a photo of John Hinckley the day before. Seemed as though Hinkley was scouting potential spots for his shot.

the wife of the agent that took one in the gut for RR was fricking around on him(this was the hay day of the answering machine,) her boyfriend left a message on their machine after he'd seen that on tv, celebrating him being shot and telling her that he hopes he wouldn't survive, bitch either missed it or was too dumb to erase it, but the agent eventually got the recording

that's Greg Cook and Leonard Mitchell. I always remember Cook as being much thicker - he looks thinner in that pic. Defensive beast.

I was a student at LSU at the time. I had gone to Philly to watch us play in the final four and came back home after we lost. I was driving from MSY back to BR when this was the breaking news on the radio.

I waz there in Philly. Had no idea Reagan had been shot or that they seriously considered cancelling the champ game. Right before the National Anthem the P.A. Announcer said "Now we will have a moment of silence for our wounded Pres Ronald Reagan." My dad and i just looked at each other like "What in the world is he talking about."??

Was in a store with my mother and overheard someone speaking and they said Regan instead of Reagan and I could not figure out why someone would shoot the Secretary of the Treasury and why everyone was so spun up about it.
