3 Advocate sports reporters on mining needs for LSU "very strongly believe LSU needs a QB"

Perryn Keys exec. sports editor, Wilson Alexander LSU sports writer, and Scott Rabalais all from The Advocate talk about the portal opening up Monday in a podcast and who LSU is or should be targeting in the portal.
Wilson noted that LSU is after a veteran wide receiver, from North Texas who originally transferred from Missouri he also noted LSU has needs along the Dline and at cornerback and safety along with a couple on special teams.
Rabalais noted "I very strongly believe LSU needs to look for a quarterback, I don't think you just leave this all in Garrett Nussmeier’s hands... Its Nuss, Ricky Collins, and a kid who isn't even of age."
At that remark by Rabalais, Exec sports editor Perryn Keys gasped, "whhooooo, you just opened up a 20-minute Pandora's box here."

Most think LSU needs some experience behind Nuss. This isn’t an indictment of Nuss.

If Ole Miss can get a P5 starter to transfer in as a backup, you do it if you can this offseason.

Agree, It's nothing against Nuss, but you can't gamble your whole season on one quarterback starting every game, also Nuss needs to be pushed by someone in spring and fall, plus what if he sprained an ankle bad? LSU has to have a quality veteran backup, and you won't find that in high school.

The QB room will be a tough situation to manage between now and the end of Spring practice.
*No QB who has been sitting at another school is coming to sit behind Nuss at LSU for 2 seasons.
*No veteran QB is leaving a starting QB job to come sit behind Nuss.
If you bring in another QB and he ends up beating out Nuss in the spring, then you're right back in the same situation (Collins as back-up) once Nuss enters the portal.
*No QB who has been sitting at another school is coming to sit behind Nuss at LSU for 2 seasons.
*No veteran QB is leaving a starting QB job to come sit behind Nuss.
If you bring in another QB and he ends up beating out Nuss in the spring, then you're right back in the same situation (Collins as back-up) once Nuss enters the portal.

We really do never want to see a player get hurt or banged up like concussion. Things happen so we do need backup with experience. If Nuss goes down you just wasted entire year during a 12 team playoff. I saw they reached out to the NC State qb which makes sense he has started a few games but can sit behine Nuss and learn more.

It will be qb that will be available in the spring. Nuss should win easily though if he doesn't probably got a good QB if he beats out Nuss.

This is always the gamble every season. It's exceptionally rare to have a backup QB that can just continue the same level of play without a transition period at least.

I think we 100% go for a transfer QB this off-season, but Kelly won’t guarantee anyone the starting job. Let the transfer and Nuss battle it out to see who starts in Vegas.

True, but you have a better QB and if Nuss wins, the transfer stays as a backup since he won't be eligible if he transfers out. So you either a) upgrade the qb position or b) have a backup for '24.
And that's why they'll do it.

I find it hard to believe lsu is going to just settle for a predetermined backup QB. They need to bring in the best QB they can find.
