Ole Miss is up there at #20 with the same record as us, lower SOS, lower RPI, and we have the H2H. I don't wanna be the guy that complains about rankings all the time, but this seems kinda obvious. Also a couple 5 & 4 loss teams ahead of us that also have lower SOS. CBB rankings have always confused me.

ETA: I realize it doesn't matter. We just deserve to be higher.

Just keep winning and it'll take care of itself. Nobody cares what your ranking is in the middle of January.....

I love the AP rankings keeping us down.

Show it to the team.

You have to beat somebody in college basketball to make the voters say "woah." They had a chance with FSU. They will have plenty of chances coming up soon.

Logic would tell you Ole Miss should have been that win, but Ole Miss is still just Ole Miss (to the voters). If they keep winning they will slowly creep up. If they get that wow factor win, they will shoot up.

And once we get that win, you magically don't move down much from a loss.

In basketball, it's simple-- make the tourney... win the tourney. Rankings during year are ALMOST meaningless. Notice, I said, "almost"!

Agreed. This team is trending up, but needs to show that they can win consistently on the road. Arkansas and Ole Miss was a good start.

Both the Ole Miss and USC wins were not even close. Ole Miss on the road is a big win. AU has more losses, but I agree. Let the games play out and just win the next one.

Doesn't matter at this point in the season.

I'm not saying the ole Miss win wasn't huge. I'm just stating how the polls work in college basketball.

Nobody that matters (see: the tournament committee) cares what you are ranked in the AP poll at any point at all.

There's no "almost" about it. They are.

They have zero bearing on the criteria used to select the teams that make the "playoffs" (i.e. NCAAT). And once the tournament starts, rankings are immaterial. The national champion is the team that finishes the tournament undefeated.

If the rankings get people to come out an watch the team, Great! Otherwise, I wouldn't be concerned about them one way or the other.

I agree. For some reason LSU basketball (in good years of course) has always been given the shaft when it comes to rankings and seedings in my opinion. I realize rankings are pretty worthless but does indicate respect or lack thereof. Of course seedings are much more inportant and impactful come tourney time. But we gotta just win!

FSU losing 4 in a row and dropping out of the top 25 is what is hurting us for now.

That Houston loss really stings as well as we outplayed them then did the LSU 10 minute left choke drill. We would be top ten if we beat Houston.

polls don't matter. All that matters is what the Selection Committee says in March.

This is why the selection committee doesn't give a second though to the media polls. LSU probably shouldn't be top 15 at this point, but somewhere around 18-20 sounds about right. Being behind Ole Miss and State is laughable. I guess they wanted to give UK and Auburn another top 25 win (in state's case)
