The greatest passer in the College Football Playoff era is gone. Joe Burrow’s magical season was legendary in 2019, and attempting to replicate (or even approach that level of success) with a new quarterback without Joe Brady scheming the passing game is ludicrous to contemplate on paper.

Still, many will ride the see-saw contemplating whether LSU is a contender in 2020.

JaMarr Chase (1,780 receiving yards) is back. So is cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.

Still, the critical pieces from one of the better teams in modern college football history are gone. A record-tying 14 (!) players were drafted, including the insanely-underrated Clyde Edwards-Helaire at running back. Myles Brennan takes over for Burrow and luckily for the Tigers he has experience as a junior, but too much talent walked out of the bayou for the pros after the undefeated run last season. There’s no way these Tigers repeat as SEC champions.

Coach Ed Oregon hit the perfect balance of CEO and game manager over the last two seasons and LSU will prove formidable again with a load of talent that includes Chase, Terrace Marshall and Stingley.

Bo Pelini is back at LSU as the defensive coordinator, which should help after Dave Aranda left for Baylor, but the switch to a 4-3 could provide early hiccups in the schedule.

Oh, and that schedule is also extremely difficult, starting with a home game against Texas in Week 2. The Tigers should probably win that one, but they should not be favored against Alabama, Auburn or Florida on the road. In fact, chalk those up as losses, with the trip to Texas A&M a toss-up as a possible fourth loss.

I would give LSU a shot (similar to Texas A&M as a 10- or 11-win team) with a more favorable schedule, but those road games are monsters.

What a crock of trite shite.

It’s like these asshats forget they were predicting 3 losses last year too

I know it’s just preseason predictions, but the lack of respect is frustrating

Alabama would lose numerous pieces after a NC season, and you NEVER would see 3 loss predictions the following year

That headline was intended to cut deep, but I’m not bothered.

I think the writer meant "The greatest passer in college football history."

Why the hell limit it to the last handful of years? IS there anyone who has ever had a better season than Burrow? No. So just say it.

We have so many experienced backups thoug

Rosenthal, Ingram, Hines, Curry, McMath have all started games and played a ton.

Defense is an interesting spot. The move to 4-3 sorta helps the fact that we lost 4/4 starting LBs.

Clark is damn good and should have a solid year at least. We have the Transfer for North Dakota which is good. We need some pass rushers to step up and another safety.

My problem is this

Alabama would NEVER be predicted to lose 3 games after a NC season

So why is 247 doing this bs?

So 10-3 in the rebuild year, pre season Top 3 to start 2021?

Ok deal.

I still think LSU wins 11 this fall

Eh it’s just as likely that we will go undefeated. We will probably slip up at least once but I think we can make a playoff run again. We have all the tools and weapons to do so. If we never had Burrow...MB would finish this season better than any QB we’ve has in the last 15-20 seasons.

How would you feel if those three loses were:

@ Florida
vs Florida (SEC Champ)
vs Florida (#4 vs #1) CFP

It could happen

eta: For arguments sake, it could be Florida, Georgia, and Clemson. But I was thinking if LSU loses to Florida 3 times, its plausible to be the #2 team in the country and have 3 losses. In that scenario, an 11-3 team, with 3 loses to the #1 team in the country isnt any disrespect

Based on all the big time players we lost including 4/5 OL, losing Brady and Aranda and playing some of our tougher games on the road (UF, Auburn, A&M) 3 losses is not an unreasonable prediction. I do think 3 is the worst case though. 2 more likely and 1 being above expectations.

With all of the insanity of 2020 anything is possible. 2021 we are back with a vengeance and kicking arse.

Well that’s probably because they’ve only lost 3 games once since 2008.

no they weren't, 10-2, 11-1 sure not 3 loses in 2019 from most people.

i wonder if that has anything to do with the fact they haven't had 3 losses since 2010?

To be fair, they haven't lost 3 games in a season since 2010
