Quit your whining! We took what Nichols gave us. They had 6 to 7 guys in the box all night long daring us to throw, so we threw y TD's. Who needs to run when you can pass all night long. They played 1 deep half of the time, hell even Les Miles would have went to the pass against that. Besides Nichols is one of the best FCS teams, won that championship last year. This was Nichols bowl game. Alabama struggled to beat S Fla., Notre Dame loses to N Illinois, Penn St narrowly escapes losing to Bowling Green. This shite happens. I don't care about stats I want to win. If a team dares us to run because they are playing to stop the pass then you run.

The trolls and NegaTigers will never admit it, but this is a great summary of last night’s positive takeaways.

I legitimately do not what else they can call, there were pop passes, jet sweeps, read options, tosses to the long and short side, counters, draws, and dives tonight. None of it was especially successful, the line isn't opening the holes and when they do, the backs are not hitting them especially well.

I think he means running play calls. Those have been very simple and predictable. No toss sweeps, just right up the middle on almost every run. The little passes out of the backfield have worked at times, but those are passes. The actual running game looks really stale.

You could say that they were being intentionally conservative, going against Nicholls, but it was the same thing against USC. Vanilla running plays, with poor blocking.

Oh BTW we beat last years FCS champion last night 44-23

Wrong. South Dakota State was FCS Champion last year. Nicholls got beat 35-0 in the first round of FCS playoffs.

It’s puzzling because his teams at Notre Dame were consistently good at running the ball. So I don’t know if it’s the play calling or that our linemen are big and strong but don’t have good technique but they’d better figure it out really soon.

You are right I read it wrong when I looked it up. However, they won the Southland conference last year also in 2018, and 2019. Point is they play football and they are well coached and guess what they want to win plus this was their moment their bowl game. These little teams do this every year. You know what teams like Northern Illinois, Bowling Green and South Florida did yesterday. You think that N. Illinois, Bowling Green and S. Florida has the talent that Notre Dame, Penn State and Alabama does?

With the exception of that 62 yd TD in the second half we shut Nichols out and scored 21 more points.

Shhhhhh. CBK is just not showing his hand. He's waiting for SEC play to show what he can do.

It’s this simple.

Our line has not been asked to run block for two years.

Additionally, Emory was our only legit back with true experience running between the tackles at LSU for more than a handful of games.

I said it last week, Nuss is going to have to keep the ball on occasion with the RPO sets.

If he does that last week, the USC game is a win.

Perhaps the coaching staff is concerned about who would take over for Nuss if he went down.

No matter what though, the options are clear, either the line / backs figure it out, or Nuss has to use his legs more often.

Just my .02.

Without a fullback you are asking a lot from the TE position for blocking to open up lanes, too bad our TEs are just extra WRs

Oh ok, I thought you might have an idea as to why we only ran for 64 yards.

Soft inside & backfield. Probably not what you wanted to hear but…

actually, for the RBs, they had 51 yards on 19 carries.

Rickie Collins had 2 runs for 4 yards.

So, the 3 RBs who had carries (#8 only caught passes out of the backfield), were 17/47, 2.76 YPC, including the 2 long runs by Williams and C. Jackson which totaled 21 yards (almost half of that 47).

Anemic does not begin to describe it.

64 yds is what Nicholls rushed for against LaTech. Maybe this explains why they thought Perkins at MLB was going to be fine.
