Are you from Ponchatoula, family/friend, or rooting for him for other reasons?

I spy a Ponchatoula homer over here.

Is there anything that TJ is currently better at than Max besides having a stronger arm? Not saying he can’t improve because he definitely can, but as of now I think Max is better at everything else. And I would argue that all of those (pre-snap reads, pocket presence, accuracy, etc) are all more important than arm strength

You detect a bias for a QB that played better than the other QB?

It’s not a bias if it’s a decision based on logic and reasoning

TJ has talent and a cannon for an arm.

But he also has a decision making problem and is a crybaby when he doesn’t play.

So sad but true.
Being thankful that we have three potential winners is not a trait often seen here.

Just my opinion but I believe one of the 3 will transfer after Spring practice.

Max is a threat to run.

Max has escapability, can extend plays.

Under pressure Max is dangerous to the opponent, under pressure TJ is dangerous to LSU.

TJ has a cannon, strongest arm at LSU since '06.

Max leads his receivers, TJ throws strong and accurately to a spot but he doesn't lead his target well for YAC.

Max protects the ball well, TJ came in with a "turnover machine" reputation and has lived up to it.

Max throws to the nearest open man even when more yds are needed and peeps are open downfield. That can be corrected/improved.

*********************************

Brennan is hurt a lot, was unable to go thru much of '19 season. Max runs a lot, is a candidate for dings.

LSU '21 WILL NEED BOTH MILES AND MAX. Contest will be for #3, TJ vs Nuss.

IMHO

I’ve seen way too many strong armed QBs fail over the years. I can’t say the same about the natural leaders. Johnson is a natural leader.

Did you watch any of the games? Did you see how bad TJ decisions were in the Auburn and A&M games? I think he has a lot of talent but he needs to make better decisions. He needs to be redshirted and learn behind Brennan and Johnson. I think he will transfer if he is not named starter or backup. Nothing wrong with it. Plus if Nussmeier is as legit as being reported T.J. may not be able to beat him out. All this will play out the way it should and best man win come spring or fall.

If Joe Burrow never existed, Max had the 3rd best passing game by an LSU QB - ever - against Ole Miss (with Brennan having the 4th best against Missouri - in a loss).

Finley was actually trending down throughout the season.

Johnson was much, much more consistent (although, to be fair, he was in relief until the last 2 games). His only dip in accuracy was against Ole Miss and with 51 attempts, he lost 6 to 10 points on easy drops alone.

Finley, 80/140 (57%), 5 TD, 5 INT
Johnson, 88/150 (58%), 8 TD, 1 INT

Brennan looks better, statistically, than either of the freshmen, but he was at a 1-2 record a a starter. Finley was 2-3 and Max was 2-0 ( ).

MY depth chart is Brennan, Johnson, and Finley, but I'm open to Finley developing faster (he has tremendous upside, looked great early and has a lot of film to work from - improving a couple of little things here and there will do wonders).

Hey your view is your view. But I saw what I saw. TJ had 5 opportunities to start, Myles had 3 and Max 2. Of the 3, I think Max plays the position the best.

I have also said O needs to tell all 3 it is an open competition but at the same time tell them based on all the eval from the game tapes, who is the leader in the clubhouse.

Nobody has a bias about anything. Myles has never been healthy since he has been here, great arm and can throw from the pocket, but can't move off his spot and reset his feet and make accurate throw, you can't run zone read or roll out or boot with him either. You can describe TJ the same way, great arm, etc, etc. TJ seemed more Turnover prone than the 3 as well.

In the end it is all opinion, but I have seen enough to think Max is the best option, he to me allows you the best opportunity to run the offense you ran with Joe B last year.

Now whoever O names the starter for the UCLA game will have my 100% support.

Biggest difference is Johnson simply manages the game better. Another large factor that isn’t mentioned nearly enough, Johnson is an actual running QB and he runs far more

I know he doesn’t have the arm Brennan does but K Boutte says, “all good bro”. Bc of the game management, running ability, and pocket presence and comfort I think he’s better than Brennan. Plus he’s way more durable. Just look at ability to run between the 2 and 3rd down conversion %s between the 2.

Give me Max Johnson as the starter over Brennan and Finley. Brennan has no pocket presence and can’t make the necessary throws on 3rd down when pressured and can’t avoid a rush and holds onto the ball too long when he doesn’t have a guy wide open and he’ll be a 5th year junior. Finley will develop and get better but Max is just well ahead right now and Max mobility, pocket presence, ball security, and escape ability give him the edge over the other guys, and don’t count out Nussmeier he’s gonna be one of the best QB’s in LSU history and will push all those guys from day 1.

All of this. Well stated. Geaux Tigers!

It does seem that one QB sets up better for a zone read/RPO offense and the other 2 set up better for a traditional drop back offense. That might figure in heavily too. Might have to make a decision on Offensive philosophy once we get a new OC.

BTW: the new OC will come in with new eyes and have to rely upon game tape and practice performance. We shall see how that goes.

my money is on him entering the portal before next season. Johnson and Brennan and Nussmeir will all be ahead of him if he stays. Big arm..too big too often...no mobility, and mobility is very important in today's game. Good kid but no future at LSU imho.

Brennan is a serviceable QB. Brennan has always looks a little scared to me. He tends to duck and run. I don't see Johnson doing that. Johnson is trying to extend plays whenever he's given a chance to do so. Johnson, IMO, has a significantly higher upside than Brennan.
