I saw where 3 DB's made a Watch List and Delpit made another List to go along with the 4 LB's that made a Watch List. Looks like 7 Players out of 11 are on some kind of Watch List and some are Preseason All Americans. Could be the most talent I have seen on Defense going back to the 50's for me. Aranda probably cannot believe his eyes and he is probably like Uncle Jed when he discovered Oil!!!

I think it certainly can be and you can make a case that the majority of this particular starting defense and many of the no.2's will be in the NFL in a few years.

Offenses were much easier to defend then

The offenses of today would give that team some fits

2019 might not be the most statistically impressive from a historical standpoint but is up there with the most athletic

It has the potential to be but we have had a lot of great defenses. We’ll see.

I’m biased..but the ‘82 defense my freshman year was still the best I’ve seen. They pretty much made the Bear and Bama quit. No first downs allowed in the 1st half AT Bama...crazy.

The ‘19 defense has done nothing yet...but I expect great things.

Humm, IDK about that. That '82 defense was pretty talented. All but 1 starter was drafted and several had very good NFL careers. Leonard Marshall, Eugene Daniel and Liffort Hobley. Others had short careers in the NFL, Tim Joiner, Rydell Malancon, Ramsey Dardar, Bill Elko and James Britt. Several backups also played in the NFL.
The 2019 defense, maybe, remains to be seen.

That's good, but it's window dressing. All Americans on the line are worth 2 in the back 7. It may be a great defense. It may be the best ever, but that will only be the case if there Lawrence stays healthy and either Shelvin/Ika break out in a big way. We'd also need some solid production out of the other end.

The following 2011 players were drafted

Taylor (3rd)
Reid (1st)
Mathieu (3rd but come on)
Simon (5th)
Claiborne (1st)
Brooks (4th)
Minter (2nd)
Brockers (1st)
Logan (3rd)
Mingo (1st)
Montgomery (3rd)

Basically our entire dome package got drafted. 10/11 went in the first 4 rounds.

Edit: Barrow got drafted in the 5th

2011 LSU is the greatest defense in college football history.

Absolutely.

A lesser defense and were maybe a 9 -10 win team with that offense.

This defense is certainly loaded, no question there.

Could be one of the best ever.

The 2011 defense beat up eventual Pac12 champ/Rose Bowl champ, Big East/Orange Bowl champs and eventual national champs all away from Baton Rouge.

Pump the brakes.

Montgomery was talented and could have gone higher but was lazy.

Agreed. If this years defense is as good as 2011 we should not lose a game.
