2018 Offense - Worse or Better?

I say better. Here’s why:
QB - Most would agree that Burrow will be an upgrade over Etling.
RB - Downgrade from last several years. We need someone to step up and be a beast.
OL - Slight upgrade considering we played 2 Freshmen last year who will be even better this year. Plus, the addition of Lewis will likely boost this unit, and we have solid depth.
WR - Upgrade. Losing DJ Chark hurts, but we’ve got some absolute studs at WR.
And I think our overall Offensive system will be an upgrade from last year. Regardless what you think about the Canada fiasco, his system was built around what many would describe as gimmicks.
I’m actually pretty optimistic about our offense. I think it will be better.

This offense had better be damn good. Ensminger has been saying all the right things scheme-wise, and Burrow looks to have the kind of accuracy and decision-making we need to finally be good on offense.

Better. New RPO system. A QB who can squeeze the ball in tight spots. Tall wrs and 2 5 * freshmen behind Giles And Jefferson. We have 7 Lineman that could start and depth behind them. Other teams win games without a Fournette Or a Guice so i dont see why fans are so terrified that we dont have an All World RB this year. We have 3 or maybe 4 RBs that can run between the tackles. These guys are in the SEC for a reason they have talent.

A lot better! Those 7 records Steve broke when he was OC before I expect to see a whole bunch of that.

All we can say is that the potential to be much better is there this year.
More experienced OL. Finally some real competition at QB. Talented, yet unproven at WR and RB. Good thing LSU does not have a shortage of talent from which to choose.
The one stat that is mostly overlooked from last year is the 2 ints that Etling threw (I think). That is fantastic, and i doubt will be repeated.
The difference (good or bad) for this coming year will come from the timing of the turnovers. Will they happen inside the 20 against GA in. 3 point game? Or while LSU is up by 30 against SLU? That timing of the turnovers will dictate the perception of “improvement” of this offense.

I'd say better, wasn't sold on Canada. From what I've seen of burrow, he makes good pre/post snap reads and gets the ball out of his hands quickly and is accurate. Not that concerned about rb's if helaire stays healthy. Offensive line should be better and have more depth. We are very deep at wr, just need them to be on the same page with qb and know all the check routes and route combos, the talent is evident(need to study film and know playbook like the back of their hand). Think the defense will be as good but possibly better than last year and if they stay healthy they won't be finishing 5th in the west.

Overall, if you take the production from the offense last year and improve red zone scoring it's a pretty damn good offense. That's a baby step; I'm expecting more. Where would that production come from? It has to be your strength... hence it has to come from the WRs. Logically, to do that we have to become a very good passing team, at least this year to do that. There are many reasons why that might not happen, and several why it can. Example: WRs are studs, but overall as a group inexperienced. How do you turn those question marks into positives/production? Coaching. No matter what one thinks of Orgeron, we have some really good position coaches. So if you follow that to a conclusion- the offensive season depends on Sullivan (WR coach & passing game coord) and Burrow.

I think it will be slightly better from a scoring standpoint, and potentially more efficient.
National ranks last season:
32nd in Yards Per Play
54th in Yards Per Game
76th in scoring O
51st in 3rd Down conversion %
105th in RZ conversion %
The YPP rank isn't that impressive when you account for pace. We were 77th in total plays last year. We routinely finished top 15 in YPP under Les/Cam. In 2017, like in previous years, if we weren't creating big plays, we weren't scoring.
Short passing attack should be better. The running game will take a step back but hopefully not to an extreme degree.
If we can be more efficient and sustain -- and most importantly finish -- more drives, it should help the defense and could make the difference in close games, where we have not had much success in recent years.

CANADA sucked ! He sucked everywhere he has been! Look how much better PITT was without him.
Steve has more experience this year and a much better qb. He better knock it out the park. 35 PPG. 500 YPG.
Since Canada sucked those are the numbers he needs to hit. If he cannot hit that then Canada did not suck as idiots here say.

Not all that far behind Cam Cameron’s 2015 offense that averaged over 32 and 430 yards. It’s good to be almost as good as Cam.
And those numbers still lagged the half Cam/half Ensminger year.

I'll be honest, I thought he might be good for us when I heard of the hire but after the first game and as the season went on and seeing the product on the field, I was very underwhelmed by Canada.

Canada's offense was really good at protecting the ball. I think with this new emphasis on passing the ball and the growing pains of adjusting to a new scheme we're going to turn the ball over a lot more than last season. I would expect gaudier pass totals though.
So I don't know what better means. We'll score more points but we'll give the ball away more. I guess it really depends on how we balance those two inevitabilities.

Wasn't happy when he was hired, there were 3 to 4 other options I would have liked instead. Don't think because I am down on Canada that I'm an O lover if that's why you asked the question. So I'm giving my totally unbiased opinion of Canada.
