I go back to the 60’s when you won a Natty from Voting.
That 2011 team beat more ranked teams (8 - 3 Top 5) and conference champion/co champs I can recall from any team not just LSU.

While the end was bad, to get there at 13-0 is still remarkable and the Gold Standard for any coach.

Remarkable coaching that season even with the pain. LSU has only been ranked higher 3 times in the 100+ year history of the program.

Before the BCS era, it would have been enough for the Natty.

In addition, we beat the winners of the Orange, Cotton and Rose bowls.

Should've printed the shirts - Tigers deserved better - anyone can tell you that a rematch always favors the loser of the first game - huge psychological advantage.

One of the top five things that I was most upset with Miles about - he easily could've sung the praises of Alabama yet proclaimed that it's not fair to the rest of the country and conferences to allow a team who didn't even win their division (much less conference), while his old team (okie state) did so. The fact that LSU won the game on Bama's home field furthers that point. This rematch was the primary driver for the new 4 team playoff system - nobody but Bsma wanted the rematch - I doubt even Miles did - but his own ego and competitiveness wouldn't allow him to say anything other than "bring it on". And , FYi -- I was a big Miles supporter to the end. Good man, but his ego and loyalty to Cam is what cost him his job - and the Bama rematch turned all of LSU's momentum over to Saban - dumb!

Yeah I was never fan of how much it seemed like he sucking them off. "Oh wow, we'd just be so lucky to share the field with that team again." Nah bruh. We already beat them and they didn't win their conference or division. Losing that game should have mattered for them and it just didn't at all.

It's another reason why i don't like the current committee. They still don't ding "good" teams because they pass the eye test even though they lose a game.

Putting LSU bias aside, the greatest year for College Football beginning to end was 2007.

I know this is all rehashed stuff but...

That was the best team Ive seen at Lsu including the 03 and 07 national champ teams. both those teams got lucky and backed into the championship game. The 2011 team destroyed people.

And there is no way in hell that a team that doesnt win their division or conference should be in the championship game. obviously alabama was one of the 2 best teams that year. this was nothing more than a statement by the voters who hated the bcs

Iowa State is the only reason that team does not go down as the best college football team ever.

If we don’t rematch Alabama that year we play Oklahoma State in the championship game. We would have steam rolled them. IF that were to happen we would have beaten:

Big 12 Champion
Big East Champion
PAC12 Champion

#12 Georgia
#3 Arkansas
#1 Alabama (in the game of the century)

And handed all but Alabama big losses.

If that happens Les is 2 Natty to Nick 1.

It's a dam shame "what if's" don't count.
Kind of like being a day late & a dollar short.
2011 was a great team that got screwed in the end, period.

It's terrible that all we as fans focus on now is the results of the bowl game, when it comes to that season.

We all look back at the 82 team with fond memories, and even refer to it as the Orange Bowl team. We lost to Nebraska in that bowl. Hell, we lost to Miss St and Tulane too that year. But people remember and talk about the Florida and Florida St games, the Alabama game, how stout the defense was, the Hilliard and James gang, etc.

So yes, we lost the rematch. That still was the most amazing season I've ever seen.

And objectively, the rematch was the wrong thing to have happen. Sure, Alabama was head and shoulders the best team in college football (other than us) that year. Sure, they dogstomped everyone just as bad as we did. Sure, Oklahoma St lost to Iowa St.
But LSU fricking played them, and played them in Tuscaloosa. And came away with an OT win the first time the two teams matched up.
You can go back in history and speculate what would happen if Michigan gets another shot at Ohio St in 2006, if Nebraska and Oklahoma get another shot at each other various seasons, if Arkansas gets another shot at Tennessee in the Vols' title year, etc. Speculation doesn't matter, because the powers that be accepted that one team faced a tremendously good opponent and won.

I guess it just feels like the deck was stacked in Alabama's favor that year; Bama only had to win once (I think if they win in the regular season, we don't get the rematch). We had to win twice for it to count. I'm more bitter at the system than our HC at the time. I wish we could have won it, but it would be like the Super Bowl the year the Giants beat the undefeated Patriots, and then the NFL decides the Pats are so good the Giants have to play them the next week too.

So OP is saying we can add another championship on our own, like about 10 of bama’s? I like it.

If you look back at history, the national champ used to be determined before the bowl, and the bowl was just an exhibition.

And LSU fired that coach. And then wondered why no one of that caliber wanted the job...

That game (1/9/2012) was the beginning of the end for Miles. Saban crawled inside his head and never came out.
