Also of note, Les let the clock run down either arguing with Crowton over the play call or to set up the Hail Mary as the final play. Didn’t even consider it being caught short of the end zone.

On second and 10 from the 32, JJ gets sacked with 35 seconds left. Les calls a timeout with 32 seconds left.

On 3rd and 19 from the 41, we ran a fricking swing pass to Ridley for an 8 yard loss. Play ends with 25 seconds left. Les waits until there's 9 seconds left to get the final timeout called.

Just baffling stuff.

Enough to sicken even the least squeamish among us. Was Les bought out to lose that game, or was he just that stupid? Only Les knows the hard facts.

Les Miles is famous for clock management snafus, but that one was in a class by itself.

Yes it was. Even as a big Miles supporter, that game was the most frustrating of the Miles era for me. Contrary to popular belief, in the last 5 years of Miles' tenure, LSU's clock mgt was outstanding. He did have 1 or 2 mishaps toward the end, but who doesnt in 5/6 years. Even Belichick and Saban have had head scratching clock mgt debacles.
In fact, it happens almost every week in both CFB and Pro football.

How did LSU lose the 2005 Capital one bowl vs Iowa? That was the most frustrating loss of all time for me. Florida in 2016 is up there with this Ole Miss game as well.

Three straight sacks followed by a 50 yard pass to the Ole Miss 5,

It wasn't 3 straight sacks. But is was an absolute clinic in disasterous playcalling.

LSU scored with just over a minute to go to cut the lead to 2. They went for 2 to tie the game. The playcall was a fade in the corner to Tolliver with left very little margin for error to be completed. The pass was incomplete. But PI was called on Ole Miss. LSU got a do-over from a yard closer. So they ran....the EXACT SAME PLAY that wouldn't have been complete the first time even without the PI.

LSU then executes an incredible on-sides kick. And, to Crowton's credit, the first play after (a WR screen) was great because Ole Miss was selling out on a blitz. Lafell got to the 32 and it looked like LSU was in a GREAT spot to try a game winning FG. Especially considering LSU still had two TOs. They then called a pass play and Jefferson lazily drifted into a sack and a loss of 9. First TO. Now out of FG range, they had to get back in. So they ran a RB flare pass...loss of 7 more. Final TO. Then a hail mary that fell woefully short of the endzone...but was caught.

LSU didn't really run the ball well that day. But one has to think with with 2 TOs and a kicker who was 12-15 on the year to date. Running the ball a time or two could have been the call. The ONLY thing LSU couldn't do in that situation was lose yards. Yet, that is EXACTLY what happened.

Everyone remembers the chaos on the final play. But it was completed with 1 second left and not really anytime to do much else. However, the reality is it never gets to that point if LSU didn't shite all over themselves in the 2 plays prior.

Clocking it with no time left turned out to be a bad move

This play doesn't exist in the record books because the snap never made it off in time. The last play of the game was the long pass.

Where LSU(read: Les Miles) lost the game is a few plays before when they let a ton of time run off the clock.

Yeah now we know there has to be at least 3 seconds to run another play after a first down and no timeouts.

Learned that lesson again against Auburn in 2016.

Honestly I was more mad about how crappy LSU looked that entire game until that last drive. Ole Miss dominated.

The problem was that there wasn't actually 1 second on that play clock. The play clock rounds up since there are no milliseconds. It could have been .99 seconds.....could have been .01. And this was back when the clock started once ball was set. It isn't possible to snap that ball in time just based on the time it takes the human brain to process the whistle being blown to allow the play.

Could have called time out with 26 seconds. Instead called with 9.

Just insane. Run Ridley up the middle twice, kick and win.

Or run on second, try a Flynn-to-Byrd, then kick.

Go back and watch last minute of Auburn 2007

Yeah, he played that off after the game like "just how we wanted to do it" but I can remember going back and re-watching that game the next day and the look on Les's face when he realized what was left on the clock told a whole different story.

Yikes. It's more horrifying each time I watch this. Since they lined up for a play with one second remaining, why didn't the team run an offensive play- a pass to the endzone, a sweep, a Jefferson bootleg, anything? The team just gave up!

Miles was one stupid MF, and a blight on LSU football after this game.

Pretty sure I saw Flynn admit to taking his time prior to the last play to better sell that we were just gonna line up and run.

He definitely took a long time so possibly true. Funny how things work out. Those few seconds could've completely changed his legacy

the 2 plays prior

The four plays prior:

1st down: Jefferson throws the ball away to avoid a sack

2nd down: Jefferson sacked for 9 yard loss, time out. 3rd & 19

3rd down: Swing pass to Ridley for seven yard loss. 0:26 left on clock, Miles calls time out with 0:09. 4th & 26.

4th down: 42 yard completion to Toliver
on OM 6. 0:01 remaining.

5th down: Ball clocked to stop the clock. Game ends.

Three words...Leslie Ann Miles. Idiot didn't even know the game was over when the clock ran out. He thought it was a time out.

Funny you say this...I always thought Les was on the take. ALOT of games during his tenure where LSU had a nice lead and seemingly shut down, allowing the other team to creep back in the game. LSU won alot of those so no one said much. I always thought it tho.
