Still have ~35 games remaining including postseason against mostly good competition (except maybe a few of the 5 remaining midweek games).
The 2023 hitting numbers will likely drop a bit, and the pitching numbers will likely rise a bit. But 2023 compares very favorably to the numbers the last LSU championship team put up.

Get the injured players back and make a run.

W/L record
2009 56-17, 20-10
2023 29-6, 9-5

Batting average
2009 .315
2023 .329

OBP
2009 .405
2023 .456

SLG
2009 .516
2023 .587

ERA
2009 4.02
2023 4.18

WHIP
2009 1.268
2023 1.222

BAA
2009 .257
2023 .209

Fielding
2009 .974
2023 .980

Few of them won't be coming back.

Yeah I mean the ones that can. I know about the ones that are out for season.

Dugas
Ackenhousen
Neal
Kling?
Coleman

Also, the team 1.043 OPS is ridiculous.

Why do you have an arbitrary presumption hitting and pitching statistics will regress? The weather is warming and the second half of the sec slate simply is far easier than what the first 14 games offered. Stats will likely pile up consistently

None of that means anything. So much is changed since 2009. Baseball has even gotten more difficult. Transfer portal has allowed players to move in and out of organizations. NIL. The bat. The balls. Who is the Louis Coleman of the staff? Who is, as we found out a multiple gold glove MLB All-Star in DJ? Who’s going to have the big hits like DJ did versus Texas in game 1?

CPMs teams were notorious for finishing incredibly strong down the stretch. They tend to be better over the back half than the front half of the season. While I’m not saying this team won’t do that, I am saying I haven’t seen that in Johnson just yet.

It is very difficult to compare different teams from different time frames with different coaches with different rules, etc. I wish people would stop doing this.

Wut? Did I miss something?

Coleman seen in BP? Kling is only hammy?

Also, Tommy White or Gavin Dugas. Possibly even Jordan Thompson because of his clutch gene at the plate.

Did the idiots on this board melt every time the 09 team lost a game like they do when the 2023 team does?

Impressive the batting avg and slugging so far this season compared to 2009. Cause the bats then were before the drastic change of the bats.

However, pitching ERA should be lower in 2023 when you factor in the change of the bats.

It's even more offensive now than in 2009. HR rates are approaching late 90's levels.

@fridaystarters Inspired by @aaronfitt observation on HRs from yesterday, here's a look at the D1 HR per game rate since 1970.

Peaked in 1998, hit a low point in 2014, and we're currently on pace to match that high (1.06 HR / g) in 2023.

That is interesting for sure. I’ve heard Ben talk about how he suspects that changes were made to the ball this year.

No way to know this but wonder what the difference of exit velo would be now compared to bats in 2009.

But the HR rate is a big difference. Better batting avg against but a good margin in 2023 vs 2009. Yet ERA is higher in 2023. But I think we can all agree the SEC is much better now than compared to 2009.

3 of those 9 probably were midweek games if I remember correctly.

Frustrating to lose to inferior teams weekday or not.

Glad that’s over

It looks like whatever changes were made happened last year, at least when it comes to HR rate. That said, there’s clearly been a big jump in offense overall in the SEC going from last year to this, so it’s about more than just the HRs.
