They did a better job with QB development.

Can't argue with that. Forgot about the All American, JJ.
What talent did he have to develop after Perrilloux got kicked off? Andrew Hatch? Lee was a work in progress when he got thrown in there.....would of been a work in progress for anyone.

I remember halfway through that season a poster came on here and posted a long, detailed analysis of how Crowton offenses were amazing the first year, then regress year by year until they are absolutely putrid.

I still remember it because everything he said was absolutely true.

The offense Crowton ran at LSU wasn't his, I promise you. Leslie gave him a list of about 20 plays to choose from. If you want to see his true offense, watch tape from his seasons at Tech (1995-1998).

I don't think Crowton handled the QB fiasco situation well. He forced Lee to make throws down the field he wasn't ready for and was responsible for the pick-6 disaster that year.

After that, Miles probably lose confidence in Crowton as an offensive coordinator.

I agree! But the talent was substantially less. I'm just curious to know what might of been if we kept Crowton and reloaded our offense.

Like most OC's Gary had his strengths/weaknesses. His MO was wide-open O and gotcha ball. What can we say 'cept that it worked really well in '07. I don't think it accurate in the least to attribute the '07 success to 'Jimbo's offense.' We had a new QB (1 career start), new OC, new WR coach, new OL coach, only 1 returning WR (Early who was hurt a lot), LaFell who had a bad case of the drops for much of the year, and two new OL (Hitt and Carnell). There were a lot of questions about O before '07.

And in '08 our O tended to score points (enough to ordinarily win other than the OM game) but was dysfunctional with all the TOs. If I'm not mistaken, we scored more pts vs UF than anyone else except OM that year.

IMO, after '08 Les underwent a paradigm shift on O and installed restrictor plates on Crowton - no more wide-open O. We had a square-peg in a round hole.

"If we kept Crowton" is inextricably linked to Perrilloux. IMO, had RP stayed, our O would've been great until he left and . . . Crowton would soon have been out of ideas; the dysfunctional O was inevitable.

You must have my tigers confused with the plains species.

2006 O was no slouch and '07 a continuation of what was already in place.
The offense went south once The Wiz actually started trying to mold it.
The O got progressively worse, and toward the end of 2010 he was handcuffed.
It was then you saw what was the beginning of the 2011 beast that made Ds quit.

Crowton & Miles were like oil and water, they just did not get along at all.. Miles wanted ball control and play good D, Gary wanted to light up the scoreboard. Problem was LSU was going thru the Co DC train wreck and LSU defense was just not up to the job. Crowton last game vs tamu cotton bowl when (forgive me) JJ threw bomb after bomb Crowton ran the offense his way that night. All The Mad Hatter talk was because of Crowton those were his plays and his calls in those games. Ask yourself since Crowton left when was the last time you seen LSU pull off a great trick play?

The offense was too complex for our players. We had illegal formation penalties out the arse in 2007.

Gary Crowton isnt a QB coach. I know he had the title here and other places but hes wasnt. Flynn was a fifth year senior developed by another coach.

the offensive game plan in the 07 bcscg was one of the best game plans ever...

The offense was very good but the players had a hard time grasping it. The offense was heavily penalized with the most obvious offense happening with the ineligible man downfield on Hester's long TD catch against Arkansas.

Yea I agree with you with the penalties it was frustrating at times.....and like someone posted earlier in the thread how crowtens offense would only go down hill after his first season.....I don't know if it was a combination of things but the offense certainly has been less than desirable these past five years.....Let's hope that changes this season...

It only works IF you have a QB that can run it...........
