Just finished watching the replay, an old Cox Sports game.
How about that defensive line? Marquis Hill, Chad Lavalais, Kyle Williams, Marcus Spears. Lots more talent in that game also. No wonder we won the NC.

That was a fun game to be at.

That was a great game. Didn't Lavalais push OM's center into Eli causing him to fall on their final possession?

Sure did. Eli claimed he had an open receiver too. I was at the game. Ole Miss billed it as the biggest game in Oxford in decades. Loved it.

Was Chad Lavolais the one who was a prison guard for a bit before college? Somewhere in central Louisiana.

I believe I was in the student section and it was my birthday.

I was there. The Grove was at its peak that day. My Ole Miss friends are disappointed that they lost the game but they agree with me that it was probably the most important game ever played in Oxford. It was for the SEC West title (although that banner hangs in Vaught-Hemingway anyway) and propelled LSU to the National Championship.

I was moving into my new house in the middle of a snow storm that day. As the moving crew repopulated my new home, I screamed in Joy as Eli fell backwards... I'm sure they never knew why.

They wheeled out Johnny Vaught before kickoff to tell everybody that LSU had rained on Ole Miss’ parade for too long and it was past time for that to stop.
Turns out he was wrong, and not just a little.

Eli getting stepped on and ending that game in the most anticlimactic way imaginable is still the most Ole Miss shite I have ever seen.

I was shocked that 45 years later the old timers still hated Billy Cannon with a passion I’ve been up there for 3 football games and a basketball game and have a pretty good time always but those folks were pissed and mean that weekend

Ole Miss had a good defensive line - really a good defense in general that year. That was probably the most fun road game I've ever been to. Oxford was slammed and a powder keg that Friday and Saturday. The Friday night before the game felt like the 60's in the square. the Square was split down the middle and both fans yelling at one another. Unreal experience.

Not technically. It was basically over at that point, but Ole Miss got the ball back with like 20 seconds on their own 20 or 30 yard line. Eli would have had to hit a huge pass, and then they'd have to nail a 50+ yard kick. So, it was basically over when Ole Miss' center was pushed back into Manning.

I’ve never seen a group of fans that pissed after a game. They knew it was their one chance.

Had standing room only seats for that game with my dad around a bunch of LSU fans thankfully and one was telling Robert Lane to go to hell. Saw Andrew Whitworth arrive in a separate car from the team bus and then spotted the bus as we walked into the stadium. The atmosphere in that game was special and LSU was fortunate to get out there with the win.

There lies ole Eli. My dad loves to say that every chance he gets.

Eli fell backwards.
Just like it says in the Bible.

When Mauck threw that early pick six the Ole Miss fans went wild and they stayed wild until the last play the game. It was Eli’s last game and they just knew Eli was gonna lead Ole Miss to an upset of LSU in his last game.

ole miss fans can cry all they want, Eli had scored one offensive td all game and that was on a blown coverages to the TE. So Eli was gonna drive them 70 yards in the final minute..sure.
Check the stats, they had 10 first downs and he was 16-36....game was not nearly as close as the score....
