Gary Gibbs, not Jake. Doesn't matter, the defense sucked that year and LSU was far away from a NC, even though Rohan Davey had a terrific season in 2001 (217/367--59.1% for 3347 yards; 18 TDs, 10 int., 146.5 rating).

They would have given Miami a better game than Nebraska in 2001.

Are you sure about that? Ole Miss has a big sign on the upper tier of their home stadium claiming a SEC Western Division championship in 2003.

This is true.

That Miami team was one of the all-time greats. No way LSU's D that year could've stopped that offense. But they would've put up a better fight than Nebraska did.

I imagine it would've been something like 47-31 Miami.

including the three national championship years, the most sheer fun was 2000. all joy, home-game-after-home-game the party was on like Donkey Kong. Just exceeding expectations almost every week, and make no mistake after UAB there was nowhere to go but up.

agreed along with 2001. both those years were exciting as they were pioneer years coming out the dinardo years after 2 straight losing seasons in 98 and 99. seeing the building of our program

I remember a few students storming the field after that game like it was the new thing to do after every win. That’s how bad our program was before then.

No Mississippi State. He got to like the 1 and was tackled. It would have gotten the win...

we stormed field massively after tenn and bama in 2000. not for moo u.

tore down both goalposts after tenn. tore down 1 goal post after bama. cops protected other one plus they had it slicked down with vaseline or something.

a group tried to tear down north goalpost after beating auburn in 2001 but cops repelled that shite.

As I recall, "who let the dogs out" was popular at the time. I recall hearing many Miss State fans chanting that during the day while tailgating. That was a great game.

I was there for every game in 2000. We stormed the field after Tenn and then 2 weeks later when we beat State several students tried again but not enough to beat the cops. It’s like they just assumed we did it after any close win because we hadn’t in so long. Then we did vs Bama since it was the first home win in decades. Then again in 2001 vs Auburn yo win the SEC.

But first against Florida in 97.

It really was incredibly loud, to the point of actually being painful. It's the only time I can ever recall covering my ears during a game.

ESPN commentator Bill Curry was at his best during the game.
