What would be your scenario for 20 teams within the league for a football schedule year in year out?

I'd cut all the cupcake games and go all SEC-SEC games with maybe a couple major conference weekends. Absolutely no cup cakes.

Split the SEC into four divisions. Rotate matches like the NFL and select OOC games based on previous years ranking.

Define cupcake?

Vandy?
Tennessee?
South Carolina?

Also what about 5hr teams that plays rivalry OOC games?

Like OU vs OSU,UF vs FSU, UGA vs GT, SC vs Clemson, Kentucky vs Louisville

East and West divisions, nine game conference schedule within the division, champions meet in the CG. That way no more unfair crossover games (LSU gets FL & GA while Bama plays TN & Vandy)

Saban says that doesn’t work for him… ergo it won’t happen. Need that easy schedule to run the table.

Divisions are out.
When they break into "pods", the 8 "football" schools, i.e., LSU, Alabama, Florida, etc., must have an equal number of other football schools in their pod re a level playing field. LSU can't have A&M & Texas while Alabama has Vandy & Tenn, which the SEC/Bama HQ will push!.

I would say to have 4 - 5 team divisions. You would do a 2 year home and home rotation of pairing 2 divisions up. Then, the winners from these 2 paired divisions meet in the championship game. This way, we play every team in the league over a period of time and the championship game is never a rematch.

It’s all about TV and big money.

No more tradition. Fewer and fewer rivalry type games. It won’t be the same.

Any schedule you draw up will be different than what we have seen before. It eill be whatever TV dictates.

Yeah, college football will fairly quickly morph into a copycat of the NFL/AFL situation of the mid 60's. We will end up with a professional college league with a (CSB) College Superbowl. 4-5 team divisions in two giant conferences who govern themselves. Once the athletes are determined to be employees, it is an inevitable outcome. They will have to create something "bigger", like the NFL model/finances to pay for all of this.

I mean this makes a lot of sense, but the only down fall is as LSU, you never play anyone in the East until a potential CG. Not very good for the fans.

I think the pods/NFL version is the best, that way, as a freshman, you get a chance to play every school/stadium once in your career.

I could see that working, too, but then you might need conference semi-finals to match up the four pod winners, unless you counted the paired pods as divisions. Might be a bit much ahead of a 12- or 16-team playoff. Something like this would be cool, though:

Southwest
Arky
Mizzou
OU
UT
A&M

Gulf Coast
AL
Aub
LSU
Ole Miss
Miss St

Atlantic
Clemson
FL
FSU
UGA
USC

Smoky Mountain
KY
UNC
TN
Vandy
UVA

You would play every team at least once every four years, but only visit every stadium once every eight years. Would break up a lot of rivalries, too. (Third Saturday, etc.) but maybe that needs to happen (not really competitive anymore)

24-team, just for fun, if the ACC implodes (lots more natural/in-state rivalries)

Southwest
Arky
Mizzou
OU
OSU
UT
A&M

Gulf Coast
AL
Aub
LSU
Ole Miss
Miss St
Vandy

Atlantic
Clemson

FSU
UGA

Smoky Mountain

UNC
NC State

Your Atlantic has: Clemson, FSU, Georgia and Florida while your Smokey division has Tennessee and maybe VA Tech as viable programs.

One of those four would have to move to the Smokey division in exchange for Kentucky (Clemson would seem like the obvious answer).

I'm also not convinced adding Oklahoma State, Clemson, GA Tech, FSU and two North Carolina schools creates value. One North Carolina school and one Virginia school if the network payouts are really increased. But dilution of the payout is a possible landmine.

I really o not think it will stop at 20 teams with the LA teams moving to the Big 10.
