CPM never keeps enough reserves in the field. Feel bad for Chris Reid now that Bryce has left the team. Walk-ons needed just to scrimmage.

With Reid, and Bryce being gone, we would have still been at 36. Somebody else would have had to go.

All you need to do is look back to last season to understand why having plenty of quality pitchers available is a plus.

Oh...and btw walk-ons were ALWAYS needed in the scrimmages. frick just last year Bain was inserted at 2B for the scrimmages because he was needed to fill a position. How'd that end up working out?

what is a non-pitcher? do you mean a position player? and 15 of them is plenty.

20 pitchers does seem like a lot but with our damn injuries to pitchers the last couple of years I can sure see PM's point.

and scrimmaging with 15 position players is easy. you can either have 1 guy play on both teams or actually let one or more of those pitchers that also played a position in high school play. and that's probably most of them.

So we always complain about bullpen depth.

Now we’re complaining about too much bullpen depth.

Awesome.

Exactly! Cpm gets paid to figure it out and learn from the past. He’s trying to do that here. Will Peterson get some at-bats this fall?

You people who complain about the decision that winning coaches make are ridiculous. It's one thing to complain about a losing coach but it's crazy to complain about a coach as successful as any in his generation.

I think we have seen Peterson's last at bat. Coach said so at the end of last season.

What? We have potentially the deepest roster of Paul’s career this year. And they’re not all 5’7 150!!

Last time I checked you only need 8 position players for a game. So you only need 16 for a scrimmage. So we are complaining about needing 1 person to fill that extra spot?

Oh BTW Chris Reid would still not be on this team because Bryce left. Would need another to leave to open a spot for Reid.

yea, it's simple mathematics isn't it? 37-1 does not equal 35.

Every season we carry 20-21 pitchers.

I think this is only the second time we’ve had 20. Never 21 under PM. Usually 17-19.

You actually have 9 regular players each game unless a pitcher hits for himself.

15 position players is enough, however.
3 catchers
1B
2B
SS
3B
5 OF two who can play CF
3 utility guys. At least 2 who play multiple infield positions.

What's weirder is that we have 20 pitchers on the roster and only 11 (and one walk on) have thrown so far this fall.

McMurray had shoulder issues in high school, so that may still be what's kept him out.

Beck was overused this summer and now has arm issues.

Gilbert recovering from shoulder surgery.

Hilliard has an as yet diagnosed arm issue.

Labas has an undisclosed injury.

Storz had a setback in his recovery.

Henry has something I'm forgetting but it started before he got to campus.

Vietmeier and Gunter haven't been mentioned yet in any fall practice reports regarding why they haven't thrown. Vietmeier threw this summer though. Gunter was limited his senior season in high school due to a non-arm injury.

The lowest amount of pitchers we've used in a season under Mainieri is 13, I think. I have the numbers at work.

So we need as many pitchers as possible given all the uncertainty and recoveries

Pretty much. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we find out one of them will definitely be out for the season and a walk on is added to the roster.

You are wrong. Chris Ried would not be on the team. With Bryce calling it quits that puts LSU at the maximum players allowed.
