Dinardo unveiled the Bandit package on defense and it worked so well he promptly never used it again.
Not true. They used it against Ole Miss the next week. It just wasn't as effective (obviously).

The crowd that night was not going to let the Tigers lose. I remember being around friends in the stands saying, “Nope. Not tonight. We’re winning this thing.”
That upset was league changing. All of a sudden, there was blood in the water and no one was afraid of Spurrier anymore. Florida would begin its decline for a decade and LSU would win its first Natty in 45 years 5 years later. Tennessee finally got the gator off its back and beat Florida the following year and won the Natty. Georgia would re-emerge under Mark Richt and be the class of the East in the early 2000s.

From start to finish, I’ve never heard Tiger Stadium louder. It was an amazing night. RIP Ron Franklin and Adrien Karsten

Sat in south upper deck U17 and couldn’t hear the band it was so loud
I was also in the South upper deck. The interesting thing was that a lot of people chose not to show up because we were supposed to lose by 50. Therefore, the stands weren’t that packed. We had room to stretch out. but the noise was deafening from beginning to end. The one thing that pissed me off was that because we were in the upper south, there was no way to get down on the field.

To the startled amazement of all...

This was the loudest game from start to finish ever in Tiger Stadium. You couldn't hear the guy next to you scream because it was drowned out by the overall crowd noise.
This was all before the Corporate takeover of college football.

Thanks for posting the highlights. Great game!
Good to hear Keith Jackson again too.
It was my Birthday and was sitting, well standing and jumping around, in Section 228 North end zone.
Those too young to remember have no idea how awesome it was to win that game. Finally felt like Curly had vanished from the rear view mirror.
I prefer not to remember the following game.

I was in the student section for that game. STILL the craziest environment at a football game that I've EVER experienced!!!!!!

Ole miss threw quick slants the whole game and the D couldn't stop it and let them win with a simple play. It was frustrating for me watching it b/c it was my first LSU game.

I’m was at that game. Drove up from Florida in a car full of gator fans. It was a very trip going home. They were no longer speaking to me.

Loudest & wildest college football game I have ever attended in person. It was insane.

After rushing the field i spent several minutes in SEZ flipping off the remaining Florida fans yelling THE FUN IS DONE. (After the Fun N Gun)
Pride goeth before the fall when they stomped our arse the next year
Still have bag of grass in ziploc in home office

Tearing down those goalposts is a core memory for me.

I had just graduated and was in first year of grad school in Memphis. When Florida tied it and I felt we got hosed on a few calls I broke a door.... OOPS!
Then LSU kept coming back and never gave up played really well. We had a formal in Grad school when we won me and a buddy drove from Memphis to BR that night we were so excited partied until the sun came up and don't remember much except it was all so worth it!!

Yeah, this is a bit much
Florida would finish 10-2 that season ranked in the top 10. In fact, they went 7-1 in the SEC in each of the next 3 seasons and finished in the top ten 3 times. Even in 2001 they finished No. 3 (and beat the shite out of LSU that year). Hell, LSU lost the next 4 games to Florida by an average of 24 points.
The decline for Florida only happened because Spurrier left. Had he not, there is no reason to think Florida wouldn't have remained a national mainstay...and complete thorn in LSU's side. Especially given Spurrier beat Saban 41-9 and 44-15 in consecutive seasons.
That game was the peak of the Dinardo era...which almost immediately started collapsing the very next week.
It was one of the greatest wins and greatest night in LSU history. But the win, in and of itself, wasn't landscape changing for either team. Particularly considering LSU returned to shite again the very next season.
