Durham is not better than Mealey
Mealey never rushed for 700 yards in any year during his career at LSU.

LSU ran a traditional I with Multiple receivers. The Power I is what Nebraska ran in their glory years

Durham was the feature back. Mealey was not with Faulk there

Was Josh Reed at RB that year too or did he start in 98. 97 was my freshman year at LSU and damn fun one at that. Was in TGBFTL and watched an upright almost go over the side of TS after beating Florida as we just stayed in the stands playing the fight song over and over.

Reed was 99-2001.
I was at LSU at the same time. That 98 season was brutal follow up to 97 season. It was hard to sit through, even in the student section.

Ironically, I thought Lindsey could be Mealey. Sigh, no longer.

Cecil Collins was the best RB I have ever seen in my opinion!

2016 was a lot better than that group. If I had to guess, you're old and like most old people, they think whatever was around when they were around 20 is better than what is around today. Well, how do you then get an unbiased answer? NFL draft. 2016 had a Top 5 pick and a 2nd round pick. 1997 didn't have that. Ergo, 2016 backs were much better. Even 2017 was better than 1997. 2017 had a 1st round back and a 2nd round back. 1997 did not have that.
Honestly, to claim anything at all in LSU football was better pre-2000 than it was post-2000 is just a Boomer take rooted in nostalgia and falsehoods.

That was a great era for the running back position in Louisiana, especially at the high school level. I guess Kevin Faulk and Warrick done were technically option QBs in high school, but they have to be included.
There were several other legendary high school running backs in the state of Louisiana during that 4-5 year span, including Cecil Collins. He might have been the most talented.
Anthony Thomas was another. He sometimes gets overlooked despite putting up monster stats. One reason is his Winnfield teams weren’t very good and made early playoff exits. He went to Michigan, and had an immediate impact his Freshman season.
Bobby Ray Tell might have been the best of the bunch. Its hard to make that claim today, but a lot of those that followed high school football back then swear he was the best running back they ever saw in high school.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I've never seen anyone like him since.

Cecil’s talent rivaled Bo Jackson & Herschel Walker.
