Miami skull drug us in Tiger Stadium one year later (1988). Hard to believe that the 1987 Tigers could have played within two scores of the 1987 Hurricanes.

People say that 1988 Miami was their best team, 1987 just got the rings

My brother and I were at that game in the North endzone. It poured down and the wind was relentless. At about the third quarter, my brother turned to me and said, "Are we crazy or what?" I agreed and we left the stadium along with hundreds of other fans.

I think the context of what I stated about 1987 was Arnsparger was coaching, not Archer. By year 2 of Archer's tenure in 88, LSU's stock was falling fast as recruiting (his first 2 classes) were not what they were in Stovall's last year, which was really good, and Arnsparger, despite being someone who was thought to not like recruiting. Showing 2 Superbowl rings and being the DC of the Dolphins 17-0 Superbowl team sort of recruited itself.

You’re usually spot on with past game memories but you’re a little off on this one. He blew it out in the open field just past midfield or around the 40. I’m about to try to find it just to be certain.

edit: well you were closer than I was. 3rd and 1 at the 13. Blew it out on the 8. My apologies.

The 1988 Tigers couldn't have played within 2 scores of the 1987 Tigers.

. No worries, I just clearly remembered that from the game. We were sitting on the 50 on the top row of the terrace. Saw it clear as day. He had a huge arse hole that a 70 year old could have scored on.

Agree, and if Arnsparger was the coach of the 87 team, it is 3 TD's plus, which was a heck of lot in the 80's with offenses much more conservative.

Eric Hill once told me some epic stories about him and Andolsek in practice. He didn't like going against him or Ralph Norwood.

I was always a Tiger, graduated from LSU in 85, but it was this group that took me to bleeding purple and gold. Tommy Hodsen is my #2 favorite LSU QB. Defense was bend but don't break, with a knack for clutch plays.

For me is was the 1982 team that made fall in love with LSU. That team was so dominate. I really believe if that team had some experience in big games they could have run the table and won it all. They went 8-2-1 and should have been 11-0 maybe even 12-0.

The 1982 team should have never lost a game either!

MSU - couldn’t stop bond 4 straight years even with a great D

TULANE - flat after the emotional FSU win

NEBRASKA - special teams and settling for field goals doomed us

TENN - gault and reveiz, the two man team

As much as I loved those Hodson teams, this is accurate.

The SEC was not at the level of Miami, Nebraska or Oklahoma back then (or that Notre Dame team that lost to Colorado). We were happy to play a competitive game against the best, thrilled to finish the season in a big bowl.Go ask older folks what their favorite games were, and they list close losses to the elite teams... that's because we didn't have wins then. We were CLOSE, but not quite there.

That's why the 2000's were so glorious- Saban pushed us over the top, and Miles (for all his critics) kept us there. People screamed at Miles for seasons we'd have given our left nut for, before.

That 1982 team had two losses during the season after huge wins.... both were inexcusable and both at home....... the tie to Tenn was also at home. It just shows how hard it is to keep a team at a certain level week after week.....

I don’t think so... we went to Bama and kicked their teeth in and then came home the next week and lost to Miss St.
